Bud Brand to Showcase at Milano Design Week 2026
The Bud Brand, a notable initiative aimed at promoting emerging talent in the design sector, is set to make its mark once again during the Milano Design Week 2026. This event ranks among the most significant design exhibitions globally, promising an exciting platform for innovative work.
A Vibrant Venue in Tortona District
Located in the heart of the Tortona district, Bud Brand's exhibition will unfold in the renowned Tortona Rocks area. This district has earned its reputation as a hub for creativity and corporate engagement during Milano Design Week, drawing thousands of visitors each year. Known for its dynamic atmosphere, Tortona houses some of the most prestigious venues like Superstudio and various independent creative displays that enrich the design landscape.
Highlighting Next-Generation Creators
Since 2016, Bud Brand has been dedicated to supporting young designers by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents on a global stage. The upcoming exhibition will feature the Bud Brand AWARD, a competition aimed at uncovering exceptional design from artists aged 35 and under. Out of a remarkable pool of over 120 entries, approximately 100 finalists—including innovative product designs and spatial concepts—will be represented at the event.
Theme for 2026: 'Hanging × Living Items'
The theme for 2026, 'Hanging × Living Items', emphasizes the role of suspended design elements in daily life. These products, which catch our attention just above the eye level, aim to uplift our spirits and enhance our moods. This exhibition encourages creators to explore fresh product ideas that harmonize with contemporary lifestyles. The theme resonates with the positive connotations associated with upward movement—suggesting aspirations and emotional elevation.
A Showcase of Talent and Innovation
As part of the exhibition, ten distinguished works will be selected for display from the broader pool of submissions. This includes awards for the Runner-up Prize, Encouragement Prize, and acknowledgment of Selected Works. Furthermore, attendees can expect a Private Exhibition featuring contributions from notable companies such as Nasa Industrial Inc. and Marutoku Co., Ltd., as well as the Shibaura Institute of Technology's Hashida Laboratory, which is well-known for its innovative approaches to design and engineering.
A Collaborative Effort to Enrich Space
The exhibition space at Via Tortona 5 will once again feature the artwork of Anonimo Design, enhancing the visual experience with a string curtain design reminiscent of wisteria flowers, which aligns beautifully with the exhibition's overarching theme of 'hanging'. This collaboration further emphasizes the incorporation of Japanese craftsmanship into the fabric of the exhibition.
Educational Outreach and Support
The Japan Design Bank Association manages the Bud Brand project, focusing on promoting Japanese design and fostering the next generation of creators. The organization collaborates with educational institutions to nurture students involved in design, strengthening product design education and supporting local artisans. Based in Shibuya, Tokyo, the association continues to bolster community engagement through design.
As Milano Design Week approaches, anticipation builds surrounding the Bud Brand's showcase. Visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in a world where design meets aspiration, discover novel creations, and engage with a vibrant community of designers set to influence the future of design.
