Exploring the Urban Yearning: An Installation by JACKSON kaki in Shibuya

In an era where art and technology converge, Shibuya takes center stage with the unveiling of JACKSON kaki's installation titled "The Yearning City". Hosted by PARCO, this exhibition promises an immersive experience that blurs the line between reality and digital imagination. As part of the collaborative event "DIG SHIBUYA 2026", attendees can engage with the art from February 13 to 15, 2026, welcoming all to explore the depths of urban desire manifested through various media.

The installation showcases a unique blend of tangible art displays, live performances, and immersive visuals created using VR technologies. JACKSON kaki—a 3DCG artist with a rich background in digital media—has focused on the theme of urban development and the underlying societal aspirations that emerge from it. By delving into the multifaceted relationship between the city's landscape, the human body, and media information, his artwork presents a distinctive narrative that invites the audience to reconsider their connection to the environment around them.

Exhibition Highlights

The audience will not only view the physical art but also witness live performances that emphasize the body as a material in art. Furthermore, the incorporation of VR head-mounted displays offers a new layer of interaction, allowing viewers to perceive the installation from three different perspectives: 1. The Hard (physical exhibits), 2. The Body (performances), and 3. Information (VR experiences). This tripartite approach captivates visitors, compelling them to confront the desires that drive urban environments.

JACKSON kaki's journey as an artist began with a foundation in 3D computer graphics and visual arts, gaining recognition within club culture intertwined with electronic music and hip-hop. His studies at IAMAS (Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences) led him to focus on the phenomenon of bodies becoming increasingly "hidden" in contemporary society, ultimately guiding him to explore the interplay between physicality and technology through performative arts.

This installation not only serves as a reflection on Shibuya’s redevelopment but also emphasizes the importance of how urban spaces shape human desires. It questions what it means to inhabit a city saturated with rapid technological advancements.

Performance Schedule

The performances will take place at the following times:
  • - February 14 (Saturday):
1. 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
2. 8:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • - February 15 (Sunday):
1. 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
2. 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM
