FMC Corporation Advances Innovative Weed Control in Brazil

FMC Corporation, a leader in the global agricultural sciences sector, has recently made a significant move by submitting a regulatory dossier for Rimisoxafen to Brazilian authorities. This development marks the herbicide as the first dual mode of action solution in the industry, aiming to address the escalating challenges that Brazilian farmers face due to resistant weed species.

Brazil is a powerhouse in agricultural production, particularly in corn and soybeans, with roughly 50 million hectares dedicated to soybean farming and over 20 million hectares for corn cultivation. However, farmers in Brazil are currently grappling with the threat posed by resistant weeds, particularly Amaranthus hybridus, which has become resistant to traditional herbicides like glyphosate. Furthermore, Amaranthus palmeri is a quarantine weed that significantly jeopardizes crop yields.

Rimisoxafen is classified under Groups 12 and 32 by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee and is designed to provide farmers with a robust tool that diversifies weed management strategies and enables long-term resistance management. In rigorous field tests conducted by FMC, Rimisoxafen has shown impressive efficacy against various broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to other herbicides, thus catering to the needs of Brazilian farmers eager for effective solutions.

This submission is not the first for FMC in Brazil; Rimisoxafen is the third novel herbicide advanced to regulatory submission, following Isoflex™ and Dodhylex™.
