Collaboration for Welfare Sector Training
In an exciting move for the welfare sector, ISF Net Joy, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Sun Planner, located in Numazu, Shizuoka, have announced their partnership to develop a specialized training program titled
General Support Course for Disability Welfare. This initiative targets new employees in the disability welfare field and aims to equip them with essential skills and knowledge to succeed in their roles.
Background of the Collaboration
Today, the landscape of disability welfare services encompasses a range of support options, including daily living assistance and employment support, each characterized by its unique operational policies. New recruits, especially fresh graduates or those with little prior experience, often face challenges in understanding clients' needs and managing safety risks. This frequently translates into heightened on-the-job training (OJT) burdens for experienced staff members.
In April, as part of their
FR Training Program, Sun Planner considered establishing a new specialized five-day course focused on the disability welfare sector. Taking into account their ongoing discussions, they reached out to ISF Net Joy, known for their extensive practical insights into disability welfare services, to lead the training sessions. This collaboration marks a significant step toward bridging the knowledge gap for newcomers in the field.
After a kickoff meeting scheduled for December 2025, the partners will leverage ISF Net Joy's practical know-how to craft a hands-on curriculum. The goal is to alleviate the OJT burden on existing staff and expedite the new hires' transition into competent team members.
Overview of the General Support Course for Disability Welfare
The curriculum is designed to follow the development stages of new employees, systematically covering foundations of disability welfare, understanding special needs, and enhancing team collaboration.
- - Day 1: Overall Understanding of Disability Welfare and Essential Attitudes for Support Workers. This includes insights into social welfare laws such as the Comprehensive Support for Persons with Disabilities Law and the Child Welfare Law, and ethics in welfare professions.
- - Day 2: Understanding Disability Characteristics (Focus on ASD, Intellectual, Mental, and Developmental Disabilities). Participants will gain perspectives in recognizing and analyzing behaviors beyond surface actions using tools like ABC analysis.
- - Day 3: Communication and Support Skills Development. This day emphasizes practical skills through exercises and role-playing, focusing on clear communication, visual aids, and environmental adjustments.
- - Day 4: Safety Management and Abuse Prevention. Training covers the fundamentals of abuse prevention laws and accident prevention, teaching skills such as predicting dangers, including falls and aspiration risk.
- - Day 5: Team Support, Exercises, and Evaluation. Participants will learn how to create accurate case records based on factual data and appreciate the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, they will engage in mindfulness coping exercises as a part of self-care, followed by a final assessment to evaluate overall understanding.
