About the Musical 'Harold!'

As part of a project initiated in 2017 by Japan Kabaya Ohayo Holdings, the 'Okayama Children's Future Musical' aims to foster local talent and nurture children. This participatory musical brings together elementary to high school students throughout Okayama Prefecture, who undergo approximately two and a half months of intense rehearsals alongside professionals, creating a performance that transcends age, gender, and nationality.

The first performance took place in March 2018, and since then, the musical has evolved through six successful iterations. Through 'Harold!', children gain invaluable experiences in friendship, the importance of self-expression, and the fulfillment of completing a project, aligning with the mission of cultivating the future generation of Japan.

This year marks an exciting milestone as the 7th iteration of 'Harold!' aims to share the growth of Okayama's children with a broader audience through its performance at the Osaka Expo. We view this event as a pivotal opportunity for children from Okayama to embark on a journey towards the world.

We express our appreciation for the support of local governments and partner companies in and outside Okayama, along with the cooperation of the media and the community, as we strive to promote the strengths of Okayama Prefecture alongside the growth of our children.

Synopsis of 'Harold!'

The storyline unfolds in a sixth-grade classroom where a humanoid named Harold arrives. Amidst initial confusion, friendships blossom, particularly between the lively girl Minori and Harold, who share a sibling-like bond. As researchers pursue Harold for retrieval, the duo embarks on an adventure, traveling from water sources to the Seto Inland Sea, encountering diverse natural wonders and deepening their understanding of life's connections and the significance of the little things.

The tale reflects modern Okayama, exploring themes of nature, family, friendships, and the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence, resulting in profound character development.

Recognition and Support

'Harold!' has been officially recognized by the Public Interest Incorporated Association, Corporate Mecenat Council as a cultural and artistic support activity. In the 'This is MECENAT 2023' initiative, it highlights the artistic endeavors undertaken by businesses and foundations as contributions to societal richness. Additionally, in 2022, 'Harold!' received an excellence award at the Mecenat Awards, celebrating distinguished activities that enhance societal culture through corporate participation.

As we prepare for this special event, we invite everyone to share in the passion and dedication behind the scenes, helping to solidify 'Harold!' as a cherished cultural landmark for the Okayama region.
