Mori Trust's CoCo JAPAN Initiative: Showcasing Wakayama's Cultural Heritage

Mori Trust's CoCo JAPAN: A Cultural Initiative for Wakayama

Mori Trust Group has embarked on a vibrant project titled 'CoCo JAPAN,' aiming to enhance the visibility of traditional products from Wakayama Prefecture. This initiative leverages three key locations: the CoCo Lounge within the Tokyo World Gate, the TIC TOKYO tourist information center adjacent to Tokyo Station, and the Nanki Shirahama Marriott Hotel. The goal is to display, sell, and promote Wakayama's traditional crafts and products recognized by the Wakayama Ichi Ban Boshi Award. This project targets a wide audience, including office workers and travelers, to broaden awareness and develop market opportunities for local goods.

Background of the Initiative

Since 2023, Mori Trust has been continuously collaborating with the city of Kinokawa in Wakayama through the CoCo JAPAN project. Activities have included the 'Kinokawa Fig Marche' held at the Tokyo World Gate and the introduction of products made from local ingredients in their cafes. With prior successes as a foundation, the scope of collaboration has expanded to encompass the entirety of Wakayama Prefecture, aiming to showcase the unique allure of its traditional crafts and award-winning products.

The Wakayama Ichi Ban Boshi Award is an initiative established by the prefecture to identify outstanding local products, focusing on those with engaging stories, distinctiveness, and the potential for future growth among food products, crafts, and everyday goods.

Creating Connections between Tokyo and Wakayama

1. Exhibiting Traditional Crafts and Award-Winning Products in Tokyo
At the CoCo Lounge in the Tokyo World Gate, the initiative will host an exhibition showcasing traditional crafts and award-winning products from Wakayama. This setting allows interaction between office workers and visitors, fostering awareness of the region's charm and products.

2. Promoting Award-Winning Products at TIC TOKYO
The TIC TOKYO tourist information center will conduct promotions targeting both travelers and office workers. This effort aims to elevate awareness of Wakayama products and share the prefecture's unique appeal through these goods.

3. Breakfast Menus Featuring Award-Winning Products at Nanki Shirahama Marriott Hotel
The Marriott Hotel will serve breakfast featuring products recognized by the Wakayama Ichi Ban Boshi Award and hold special markets to introduce local specialties. This initiative will captivate both guests and tourists by bringing forth the unique qualities of Wakayama goods.

Significance of This Initiative

This effort aims to elevate awareness and expand markets for Wakayama's treasured crafts and products in both the metropolitan and prefectural areas, creating new customer interactions. By engaging multiple venues, including office buildings, tourist information centers, and hotels, the project strives to foster a collaborative model of regional revitalization in partnership with local government.
