Hong Kong's Spectacular Celebration of the Year of the Horse Shines Brightly

A Dazzling Celebration of the Year of the Horse

On February 18, 2026, Hong Kong came alive as it marked the arrival of the Chinese New Year with the magnificent fireworks display titled "Prosperity Gallops Across Hong Kong," an event exclusively sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). Simultaneously, a stunning drone and fireworks show took place in Conghua, Guangzhou, also supported by the Club. These events were part of the Club's ambitious Year of the Horse campaign, aimed at highlighting the integral role of horses and horse racing in the community.

The fireworks extravaganza in Hong Kong featured a breathtaking 23-minute display, commencing with a vibrant burst of colors that welcomed the Year of the Horse. The show was designed with themes centered around horses, and it lit up the night sky with auspicious symbols, blessings for the new year, and iconic imagery such as horseshoes and the HKJC logo. A staggering 31,888 fireworks shells were launched, each contributing to a magical atmosphere echoing the spirit of galloping horses.

In the midst of this grand celebration, a special ceremony took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The HKSAR Chief Executive, The Hon John KC Lee, officiated the event, emphasizing that this year symbolizes the commencement of the country's 15th Five-Year Plan. He expressed Hong Kong's commitment to pursuing continuous reform and progress while closely aligning with national strategies. Lee acknowledged the Club's sponsorship of the fireworks and thanked them for spreading blessings and joy for the Year of the Horse, wishing for the prosperity and strength of both the motherland and Hong Kong.

The Hon Martin Liao, Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, also addressed the audience, noting the significance of the Year of the Horse for the Club. He reflected on Hong Kong's status as a premier global horse racing hub and the pride associated with developing equestrian sports. He stated that the Year of the Horse campaign is not only a festive celebration but also an opportunity to honor horses and the sport that significantly contributes to the city's betterment. Liao highlighted the Club's mission to enhance society, mentioning its role in channeling gambling demand responsibly, thereby generating substantial economic value and charitable contributions to the community.

In Conghua, Guangzhou, spectators enjoyed an equally stunning display, where 1,200 drones illuminated the night. This innovative performance showcased vivid horse racing imagery and symbols of fortune, heralding a prosperous year ahead for the community.

Looking forward, one of the key features of the Year of the Horse campaign will be the commencement of world-class racing at the HKJC's Conghua Racecourse in October. This event marks a significant milestone in the Club's dedication to supporting the development of the national equine industry within the Greater Bay Area and beyond.

The Year of the Horse campaign unifies the community through exciting races, international equestrian events, and a series of cultural, sporting, and family-oriented activities, making it a celebration for all. It serves as both a tourist attraction and a platform to promote the growth of equine and community sports.
