An Exciting New Initiative: TCJ KIDS
In an exciting development for the education of foreign roots children in Japan, TCJ Japanese Academy will introduce a new Japanese language class called 'TCJ KIDS', beginning in November 2025. This initiative is part of their existing 'Work and Life Japanese Course' targeted at foreign residents, and they are now looking for free monitors to participate from September 16 to the end of October 2025.
Background and Purpose
Despite Japan facing population decline, the number of foreign residents has been steadily increasing, reaching nearly 3.76 million by the end of 2024. Among these individuals, many are families with children, who often encounter significant barriers in accessing education due to language and cultural differences. Concerns about coordinating with schools and finding suitable after-school care are prevalent among these families. TCJ aims to bridge this gap through the new TCJ KIDS program, which will allow children to enhance their Japanese language skills in a safe, nurturing environment while also deepening their understanding of Japanese culture.
Key Features of TCJ KIDS
TCJ KIDS will leverage the know-how developed through the experience of teaching over 4,000 foreign residents since the program’s inception in 2020, offering a unique educational experience based on immersive learning. Here are some key features of the program:
1.
Immersive Japanese Environment: The program will provide children with a fully Japanese-speaking environment for up to three hours a day, utilizing various activities to make learning natural and enjoyable.
2.
ISO 29991 Certification: The academy is officially recognized with the international standard for language education, ensuring high-quality instruction and service.
3.
Professional Instruction: Classes will be led by qualified Japanese language educators who specialize in teaching children and will support their learning journey.
4.
Flexible Attendance: Families can choose to enroll their children for two days a week, allowing for customized learning that fits their schedules.
Application for Free Monitors
The free monitoring program will run from September 16 to October 31, 2025, with sessions taking place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the TCJ Japanese Academy. Interested families must be able to commute to the academy on their own, as there will be no provided transportation or snacks during the free monitoring period. Participants will also be asked to assist with the photographing and filming of sessions for promotional purposes.
Sign Up Process
Families interested in enrolling their children as free monitors can fill out an application form provided by TCJ. As space is limited to just five participants, prompt registration is encouraged.
Vision for Multicultural Growth
TCJ KIDS aspires to create a welcoming environment where children from foreign roots can thrive in Japan. By providing a safe space for learning, the program aims to strengthen connections between families, schools, and the greater community, ultimately contributing to a more harmonious multicultural society.
Statement from TCJ Academy’s President
Mr. Takumi Nakazawa, the president of TCJ Japanese Academy, emphasized the importance of this new program. He acknowledged the struggles many foreign children face due to limited exposure to the Japanese language, which can impede their educational progress. "At TCJ, we are committed to utilizing our expertise in Japanese language education to empower these children and foster an environment where parents can confidently entrust their kids to learn and grow. There should be no borders in child-rearing, and we're dedicated to ensuring every child has the right to flourish."
