Chinese-Arab Media and Research Alliance Conference Kicks Off in Cairo
On May 13, 2026, the Chinese-Arab Media and Research Alliance Conference was launched in Cairo, Egypt. Under the theme, "Pooling Wisdom and Creating New Paths by Building a Shared Chinese-Arab Community for a Shared Future," this event aims to enhance the cooperative efforts between China and Arab states.
Zhong Ren, Chairman of Sinopec Group, delivered the keynote address, where he emphasized the critical role of energy, innovation, and cultural connections in establishing and strengthening ties between these regions. Zhong's presentation highlighted Sinopec's intentional efforts to foster a more unified Chinese-Arab community for mutual prosperity and collaboration.
During the conference, Sinopec was honored with the Global South Outstanding Contribution Award, recognizing its active role in promoting trust, amplifying the Global South's voice, and demonstrating commendable collaborative spirit in various initiatives.
In his speech, Zhong reflected on the longstanding friendship between China and Arab nations, which spans over a millennium. He articulated that the civilizational exchanges between the two cultures have been a source of mutual inspiration, exemplifying successful dialogue and learning. As noted in a report by Xinhua News Agency, titled Achievements, Opportunities, and Prospects of Cooperation between China and the Arab World in the New Era, the collaboration has provided stability and set a standard for South-South cooperation worldwide.
Sinopec, committed to the principle that "energy security means common security and energy development signifies coordinated growth," has actively engaged in landmark projects such as the Yanbu refinery in Saudi Arabia and the Al-Zour refinery in Kuwait. In line with this, the company has been expanding its oil and gas trade while promoting a balanced development approach between traditional and renewable energy sectors.
Furthermore, Sinopec is accelerating its digital transformation. The company is working on building a controllable independent AI system and an international omnichannel communication framework to contribute to the Global South's independent discourse system.
Culturally, Sinopec has initiated Silk Road Book Houses in eight Arab nations, donating over 10,000 books and training more than 100,000 local professionals and technicians. This effort aims to create bridges of dialogue and interaction between the peoples of China and the Arab world.
Looking ahead, Zhong mentioned that the upcoming Second China-Arab States Summit is poised to further advance the relationships between China and Arab nations, as well as enhance South-South cooperation. Sinopec is eager to collaborate with partners to foster a closer Chinese-Arab community with a shared future.
The two-day event, co-organized by Xinhua and the League of Arab States, convened around 250 representatives from nearly 110 media outlets, research centers, government institutions, and enterprises from both China and the Arab countries, alongside various international and regional organizations.
This conference marks a significant milestone in fostering connections and paving the way for collaborative opportunities between China and the Arab world, setting the stage for future endeavors and partnerships.
