Experience Autumn at Ryusenji Temple with Limited Edition Kiri-e Goshuin

Autumn at Ryusenji Temple

The historic Ryusenji Temple in Saitama, known as the birthplace of Kiri-e Goshuin, has just introduced two special limited edition Kiri-e Goshuin for the autumn season starting September 1, 2025. Produced by ELternal, a venture founded by Waseda University graduates, these unique pieces celebrate the beauty of autumn through intricate paper-cut art.

Autumn Themed Kiri-e Goshuin

1. "Aki no Hana Mau Daishido – Hyakka Ryouran –"

This stunning piece features the main motif of Daishido, exquisitely crafted through delicate paper-cutting techniques. Framed by the majestic golden Ginkgo trees and elegant Chrysanthemums that bloom in the radiant autumn sunlight, the design encapsulates the essence of the season. The intricate details of the leaves and flowers, combined with shimmering red foil for the autumn foliage, create an impressive display of nature's beauty. Ginkgo is considered a symbol of prosperity, as it's said that a tree planted by a grandfather will bear fruit in the next generation. Similarly, the Chrysanthemum, which remains regal even as autumn leaves fall, symbolizes high virtue and elegance.

This Kiri-e Goshuin captures the spirit of abundance and beauty, embodying a sacred moment where the Daishido watches over visitors, blessing them with happiness and joy.

2. "Akimori – Aki Yabashi –"

The second design is inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, presented in a scroll motif that layers multiple intricately cut pieces. At the center, the serene full moon illuminates an autumn sky, casting a warm glow over a bridge that symbolizes connections—between people, regions, and the past and future. Celebrated in Japanese culture, bridges represent unity.

Adorned with bold yet delicate paper cutting, bellflowers bloom at both ends of the scroll, harmonizing with the bright and vibrant cosmos central to the piece. This Goshuin portrays the exquisite beauty of autumn flowers during a tranquil fall night, highlighting the artistic qualities of Kiri-e.

Available from September 1 to November 30, 2025, or until supplies last.
