XCMG Leads the Charge in Setting International Crane Standards

XCMG Drives the Global Standardization of Crane Industry

In a landmark event held in Frankfurt, Germany, more than 100 delegates from 16 countries gathered for the 2026 meetings of the International Organization for Standardization's Technical Committee on Cranes (ISO/TC96). Among them was Shan Zenghai, Vice President and Chief Engineer of XCMG, leading a team of experts from China. This gathering was instrumental in discussing the future direction of international standards for cranes, a crucial sector in construction and heavy machinery.

Before these important meetings, the Chinese delegation diligently coordinated on technical proposals and set standardization priorities among working groups. During the sessions, delegates engaged in discussions covering a wide array of topics, including safety measures, inspections, and operational protocols for mobile cranes. This proactive approach led to multiple initiatives aimed at enhancing international standardization in the crane sector.

One significant contribution from Shan Zenghai was his report on the ISO 12480-2, titled Cranes – Safe Use – Part 2: Mobile Cranes. His insights propelled this project into the Draft International Standard (DIS) phase, indicating substantial progress. Additionally, the Chinese experts from XCMG proposed a new working draft for ISO 9927-2, which focuses on the inspection of mobile cranes, drawing significant interest from international experts.

XCMG's contributions did not stop there. The team also advanced revisions of ISO 9927-1, a comprehensive guideline for crane inspections, and managed two other projects aimed at international standard reviews. These efforts reaffirmed China’s growing influence in establishing crane operator safety standards and operational guidelines worldwide.

Furthermore, the recent meetings were not just a platform for presenting advancements; they also spurred work on 14 international standards for cranes led or revised by Chinese experts. There were two additional new international proposals presented, alongside six new projects undertaken under Chinese leadership. These developments not only bolster China’s role in international crane standardization but also enhance its stature as a global hub for crane manufacturing.

XCMG is currently recognized as the third-largest manufacturer of construction equipment globally. The company has played a pivotal role in developing over ten international standards. By exporting products and contributing to the formation of global standards, XCMG supports the evolution of the Chinese manufacturing industry across the international industrial value chain. Their commitment extends to fostering technological innovations and modernization within the construction equipment sector.

In the broader context, XCMG's endeavors reflect the growing importance of standardized safety practices in the construction industry, which can have profound implications for operational efficiency and safety worldwide. As more countries adopt these standards, collaboration within the international framework will undoubtedly enhance the overall quality and safety of crane operations globally.

Overall, XCMG’s participation in shaping international crane standards not only facilitates compliance and best practices but also embodies the spirit of global cooperation in enhancing safety and operational integrity in the construction industry.
