New Initiative 'Chabad Friends' Aims to Strengthen and Unify the Jewish Community
Chabad Friends: A New Beacon for Jewish Unity
In a world where antisemitism is on the rise, a new initiative titled Chabad Friends emerges, spearheaded by notable personalities Michael Rapaport, Elizabeth Pipko, and their team. This initiative is aimed at fostering connections and deeper understanding within the Jewish community, which is becoming increasingly critical in today's climate.
A Launch for Unity
The official debut of Chabad Friends is slated for March 13th with a festive Purim celebration held at the Chabad Chelsea Shul in New York City. This event promises to be a significant gathering, featuring a Megillah reading and performances by prominent artists, including the Hasidic folk duo Zusha. Co-founders Rapaport and Pipko emphasize the initiative’s goal: to serve as a bridge for Jews of all backgrounds to reconnect with their faith and identity.
The Initiatives
Chabad Friends is founded under the 501(c)(3) Worldwide Friends Foundation and will launch with three primary initiatives designed to create lasting impact:
1. Fins & Scales
This initiative presents a kosher omakase dining experience, hosted within Chabad Houses starting in NYC. The first location will tantalize taste buds with a series of unique courses featuring premium fish dishes served in a community-driven environment. Adopting a 'give what you can' model, this program aims to offer exquisite cuisine while supporting the broader goals of Chabad Friends through donations.
2. Torah Time
This online Torah study platform aims to unite Jewish individuals worldwide in what seeks to become the largest recurring Torah study session. In memory of the Bibas family, it hopes to create a supportive community where knowledge and tradition flow freely.
3. Keep It Kosher – Chabad Kitchen Grants
Dedicated to enhancing kitchen facilities within Chabad Houses, this initiative will ensure these venues can thrive as community hubs. Improved facilities enable Chabad Houses to host Shabbat dinners, challah bakes, and other activities that encourage participation in kosher cooking and Jewish practices.
A Message of Resilience
The landscape of Jewish identity is challenging, with growing incidences of hostility and misunderstanding. According to Pipko, “Solidarity through Torah is the only way forward in the face of the challenges that Jews worldwide are now up against.” Her sentiment reflects the pressing need for unity and strength within the community, especially during challenging times.
Rapaport echoes this sentiment, expressing that Chabad Friends intends to confront hate with a message of pride and faith. “We are breaking down barriers and fostering connection—one class, one meal, and one mitzvah at a time,” he articulates passionately.
Join the Movement
As Chabad Friends embarks on its journey, the founders invite everyone to partake in their events, whether through culinary, educational, or community activities. With their launch party approaching, interested individuals can obtain further information and tickets through their website ChabadFriends.org.
In essence, the introduction of Chabad Friends not only represents a step towards mitigating the challenges faced by the Jewish community but also fosters a renewed sense of pride and identity among its members. As they say, together, they aspire to build a more connected and engaged Jewish experience, making their voices heard in the modern world.
