Huawei and China Telecom Win GSMA GLOMO Award for Improving Youth Lives

At the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Huawei and China Telecom were honored with the prestigious GSMA GLOMO award for 'Best Mobile Innovation for Enhancing the Lives of Children and Young People.' This recognition is attributed to their exemplary Qingjiao initiative, which focuses on utilizing technology to bridge educational gaps for youths in underprivileged rural areas of China.

The Qingjiao Initiative

The Qingjiao plan, developed by the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation (CSEF) and launched in 2019, aims to provide educational resources and an online community for teacher training. Through the integration of China Telecom’s 5G network and Huawei’s WeLink platform, this initiative offers comprehensive online learning opportunities, allowing students and teachers from rural, under-resourced regions to benefit from enhanced educational support.

Cui Yangyang, the director of Huawei’s TECH4ALL program, emphasized the alignment of Qingjiao with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on achieving equitable education. He stated, “Qingjiao meaningfully addresses the education equity gap between urban and rural areas, supplying current students in remote locations with essential resources to thrive in the digital age.”

Impact and Reach

The program has successfully trained nearly 180,000 young teachers from rural regions across China, indirectly benefiting tens of millions of students. In the Langcang district alone, the project has provided training for 600 primary and secondary school teachers, directly impacting the education of approximately 5,000 students.

The GLOMO award jury, comprising over 200 industry experts, analysts, journalists, and academics worldwide, praised the Qingjiao initiative for its impressive scope and potential to benefit a significant number of young students. Their detailed comments recognized the comprehensive advantages provided by the initiative, highlighting it as a complex solution that effectively connects teachers and students with valuable resources.

Collaboration and Partnerships

The role of various partners is pivotal in the success of the Qingjiao plan:
  • - CSEF: The foundation, with government support, identifies exceptional teachers throughout China to share their expertise online and provide educational resources to enhance the skills of rural teachers.
  • - Huawei: The WeLink platform offered by Huawei Cloud delivers an interactive online classroom environment, linking schools, students, and teachers. This setup allows students in underfunded rural areas to partake in multimedia lessons remotely, ensuring they receive the same educational opportunities as their urban peers.
  • - China Telecom: The company enhances connectivity in rural areas by deploying its 5G and optical network infrastructure, integrating both fixed and mobile networks for seamless service. The network solution facilitates smooth roaming and secure management across various devices, enriching the learning experience.

Recognition in Marketing Excellence

During the same award ceremony, Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative—specifically the 'Skills on Wheels' campaign—was also shortlisted for the 'Marketing Excellence for Good' award.

Conclusion

The TECH4ALL initiative represents Huawei’s long-term vision and action plan aimed at ensuring a digitally inclusive world. It reflects a commitment to support the growth of a sustainable and inclusive digital society through innovative technologies and strategic partnerships.
