What is the Whisky Examination?

The Whisky Examination aims to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of whisky by testing knowledge about its production methods, history, culture, and fun facts. Launched in 2014, the examination has seen over 35,000 applicants to date, with the 22nd exam recently concluded. Questions range from basic whisky knowledge, such as "What are the ingredients in whisky?" to more in-depth queries like "What regions contribute to the production of Scotch whisky?". By understanding the cultural background of whisky, individuals can deepen their appreciation for its flavors.

This examination is not only popular among enthusiasts but also serves professionals in the beverage industry, with many appreciating its structured learning format and the opportunity to validate their knowledge. The exam consists primarily of multiple-choice questions (with some written questions) and is accessible even to those newly introduced to whisky.
