Digital Hollywood University Recognized with MDASH Literacy Plus Certification for 2025

Digital Hollywood University (DHU), located in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, has recently been awarded the prestigious MDASH (Mathematics, AI, and Data Science Literacy Plus) certification for 2025 by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This recognition, which places DHU among a select group of only 32 institutions nationwide, emphasizes the university's commitment to providing high-quality education in digital content and communication. DHU offers an undergraduate program in Digital Communication and a professional graduate school in Digital Content, aiming to bridge theory with practical applications to cultivate innovative business solutions.

The MDASH Literacy Plus certification is designed to evaluate and endorse exceptional educational programs that meet the evolving demands of the digital age. Starting in April 2025, DHU has revamped its curriculum under the guidance of Takumi Usui, a distinguished associate professor. The new curriculum will focus on practical learning experiences, including engaging with large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT. Students will explore various applications of AI in research, English language learning, paper analysis, and building personal AI assistants, thereby developing their ability to analyze and apply information independently.

About Takumi Usui

Takumi Usui holds a strong background in AI and technology, graduating from the International Christian University. He has worked with PKSHA Technology, where he contributed as an associate in a fund, and has experience as an account manager at Amazon Japan. He also co-founded Michikusa Inc., which specializes in AI training for both corporate and individual clients, and has garnered a social media following exceeding 500,000. His recent publication, 'Notion AI Hacks,' offers insights into maximizing the use of AI in personal and professional settings.

Innovative Projects from DHU Students

One of the standout projects developed by a senior student, Ryuta Goshima, is an Emergency Communication Structure Simulator (ECSS). This web-based simulation offers a fictional representation of a communication system inspired by the emergency communication scenarios depicted in dramas. In this project, Goshima utilized three AI models, including ChatGPT, to collaborate on various roles in the development process while overseeing the project as the director. The simulation allows users to edit scenarios without requiring extensive programming knowledge, showcasing flexibility in design and understanding communication systems. Such projects mirror DHU's mission to prepare students for complex real-world challenges through hands-on learning and innovative thinking.

Incorporating AI into the Educational Experience

DHU is also pioneering the integration of AI into its educational framework. The university has collaborated with neoAI to introduce 'Ututor,' an AI-powered tutoring tool that provides objective evaluations and suggestions for improving students' creative work. This tool supports learners in areas such as graphic design, web UI design, CG, and video production, thereby enhancing the overall learning experience. The incorporation of AI not only enables personalized education but also fosters students' ability to utilize advanced technology in their creative fields.

Career Development and Industry Collaboration

In addition to academic excellence, DHU places a strong emphasis on practical learning and career readiness. The university's Career Center coordinates seminars, internships, and job placements to align student education with industry needs. This approach ensures that students have real-world experiences and connections in their fields, reinforcing DHU's dedication to producing highly employable graduates.

Open Access to AI Tools

To further support its students, DHU provides free access to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, encouraging students to engage with generative AI in their studies. This initiative aims to immerse students in the use of cutting-edge technology, enhancing their skills and creativity.

Conclusion

The MDASH Literacy Plus certification not only highlights DHU's commitment to educational innovation but also positions the university as a leader in fostering the next generation of digital professionals. With its blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, DHU is paving the way for students to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
