Exciting Showcase of Woodcraft: PROJECT HINOKI II Tour Across Japan

PROJECT HINOKI II: A Journey into the World of Hinoki

Karimoku Furniture Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese furniture manufacturer, is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition, PROJECT HINOKI II. The event will kick off at the New Yokohama Showroom on November 22, 2025, and will tour four locations nationwide. Focused on the unique characteristics of Hinoki wood, this exhibition aims to highlight its beauty and potential through various creative interpretations.

Background of the Exhibition

This tour is a reimagining of two previous exhibitions: PROJECT HINOKI, held during the Milan Design Week in April 2024, and PROJECT HINOKI II, which took place from January to March 2025 at Karimoku Commons Tokyo. Attendees can expect a rich exploration of Hinoki wood through research displays and the works of talented creators, showcasing its allure and future possibilities.

Exhibition Features

The exhibition features contributions from Ville Kokkonen, a designer for MAS, who presents a detailed research showcase on Hinoki wood. His display documents trips to key Hinoki-producing regions across Japan, offering insights into the current status of this beloved material through photographs and videos from harvesting sites. This immersive experience allows visitors to witness the realities surrounding one of Japan's most cherished woods.

Multiple creators, active in various fields, will also interpret and utilize Hinoki in their artwork, thereby expanding its applications beyond traditional uses as building materials. The innovative creations will provide a fresh perspective on the potential of Hinoki in modern design and craftsmanship.
