Sharjah's Government Communication Award Embraces AI in 2026 Edition

Sharjah's 13th Government Communication Award Invites Global Submissions

The Sharjah Government has announced the opening of applications for the 13th edition of the Government Communication Award, inviting participants worldwide to showcase their innovative communication strategies. The focus for this year's award is significantly on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within communication practices.

Expanding Horizons of Participation

The award aims to honor over 35 categories of submissions from various sectors, including government entities, the private sector, and individual contributions. Organizations and individuals interested in participating have until September 22, 2026, to submit their entries. This year's initiative follows an impressive increase in international participation in the previous edition, which attracted more than 2,600 applications from 37 countries. Out of these, over 600 entries passed the initial screening, and 170 made it to the final evaluation stage.

Celebrating Innovative Initiatives

Previous submissions have highlighted remarkable projects such as Tuvalu's vision to become the world’s first digital nation in response to climate change, entrepreneurial programs aimed at youth in Nigeria, and an AI platform connecting experts from Africa and the United States. These projects underscore the diverse and impactful initiatives that the award seeks to recognize.

A New Era of AI in Communication

This year marks a significant shift with the introduction of specific awards related to AI. A notable new category titled "Best Use of AI in Government and Institutional Communication" has been added to acknowledge the strategic application of AI technology in communication processes. Furthermore, other categories can earn up to an additional 10% of points for effectively leveraging AI.

Evaluation Criteria

The judging panel will assess how well AI has been incorporated throughout various stages of communication initiatives—from planning to execution and evaluation. They will consider whether the use of AI has enhanced content quality, improved audience understanding, or boosted communication efficacy. Additionally, a new subcategory named "Best Campaigns Promoting Emirati Identity" has also been introduced, reflecting a commitment to cultural enrichment.

The Call for Impactful Projects

With the launch of this year’s award submissions, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau is actively seeking initiatives that not only demonstrate effective communication strategies but also showcase the positive changes these strategies have fostered in society. The emphasis is on sustainable impact—entries should illustrate not only successful communication efforts but also the lasting benefits to communities and stakeholders involved.

As the deadline approaches, interested parties are encouraged to put forth their most compelling projects that align with these goals. The Sharjah Government Communication Award serves as a robust platform to highlight and celebrate innovative communication practices on a global scale, particularly as AI continues to transform the way we connect and convey messages.
