Star Dancers Ballet Company to Hold Relaxed Performance of Cinderella in May 2026

Upcoming Relaxed Performance of 'Cinderella'

The Star Dancers Ballet Company, a prominent name in the world of ballet, is thrilled to announce an upcoming relaxed performance of the beloved classic 'Cinderella'. Scheduled for May 9 and 10, 2026, this event will take place at the Showa University Teatro Julio Showa. The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the company to create inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy the beauty of stage arts.

Since its inception in 2018, the Relaxed Performance series has garnered supports from audiences across Japan, with a total of 24 performances in 10 different prefectures. These performances are designed especially for individuals who may find traditional theater settings challenging. Whether it's due to sensory sensitivities or the presence of young children, this inclusive format ensures that audiences can engage with the show in a comfortable and supportive space.

What to Expect

The relaxed performance of 'Cinderella' will incorporate several thoughtful considerations to enhance the experience for all attendees:
  • - Free movement in and out of the auditorium during the show is permitted.
  • - The auditorium lights will not be completely darkened, providing a less intimidating atmosphere.
  • - Special priority seating will be available, adaptable to the needs of individuals and families.
  • - A detailed viewing guide will be made available online prior to the event.
  • - Pre-show explanations will provide insight into the performance and its themes.

By easing the expectations of silence typically associated with ballet, we aim to foster a setting where each audience member can engage with the performance at their own pace.

A Beloved Classic with a Unique Touch

The performance of 'Cinderella' will showcase live music by the Teatro Julio Showa Orchestra, creating an enchanting experience. The production is led by the resident choreographer of the Star Dancers Ballet, Minoru Suzuki, who is renowned for his innovative works, including the celebrated 'Ballet Dragon Quest'. Originally premiering in 2008, this version of 'Cinderella' has seen multiple revivals, resonating with audiences of all ages. Featuring endearing mouse characters and light-hearted moments, the narrative captures the essence of kindness and hope, making it accessible for children experiencing ballet for the first time.

The music, composed by Sergei Prokofiev, adds a layer of beauty and whimsy to the tale, allowing audiences to immerse themselves fully in this magical story.

A Winning Approach to Inclusivity

Our commitment to inclusivity is further exemplified by the positive feedback we’ve received from past attendees. Here are some of their responses:
  • - “This performance was perfect for my hopes of introducing ballet to my children.” (30s)
  • - “I attended with my son, who is autistic. More opportunities like this would be wonderful.” (60s)
  • - “My child with auditory sensitivities felt safe and enjoyed the show.” (40s)
  • - “I was able to share this experience with my mother who has panic disorder.” (20s)
