Enhancing Child Safety Awareness Through Fun Learning

In a proactive move to promote safety among children living near railway lines, the Japan Private Railway Association is gearing up to distribute an impressive 86,000 sets of safety educational materials. This initiative is closely aligned with the upcoming Autumn National Traffic Safety Campaign set to run from September 21 to 30, 2026. The campaign aims to prevent children from straying onto tracks or engaging in dangerous behaviors like placing objects on the railway.

The Autumn National Traffic Safety Campaign is a significant annual event held twice a year, in spring and fall, aimed at preventing traffic accidents. Rail operators across the nation participate by amplifying their calls for safety and awareness. Since 2005, the association has been dedicated to creating and distributing educational materials for children, aiming to enhance the synergy between safety measures and public relations efforts.

This year’s educational materials include a new and engaging product titled Mika-chan & Teppie’s Railway Mystery Challenge Book. This booklet, featuring the association’s official character Mika-chan, alongside Teppie, who represents Railway Day, serves as an interactive learning tool. Children can partake in quizzes and games that teach important safety tips about railways and pedestrian crossings in a fun and entertaining manner.
