Eastern Michigan University's New Online Early Childhood Education Degree



Eastern Michigan University (EMU) is set to make significant strides in teacher education with the introduction of a new Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. This fully online program is designed to cater to the rising demand for quality early childhood educators, specifically targeting individuals seeking to obtain initial teacher certification for infants to kindergarten-age children.

At EMU, the Board of Regents approved the program during its recent meeting on October 23, 2025. It is structured for those who have already acquired an associate degree in early childhood education or child development. Many of these students may already be working in childcare environments, looking to elevate their qualifications while still fulfilling their professional duties.
