Dive into the Terrifying World of SHINONOMEABYSS
The excitement in the gaming community is palpable with the recent release of the eagerly anticipated horror game,
SHINONOMEABYSS - The Yin-Yang Priestess. Published by
ABC Animation in collaboration with
KADOKAWA Game Linkage, this thought-provoking roguelike horror title is now available for download on both Nintendo Switch and Steam since March 26, 2026. Furthermore, players can take advantage of a launch sale until April 8, with a reduced price of ¥1,485, offering a 10% discount.
Game Overview
In
SHINONOMEABYSS, players take on the role of a priestess named
Yono, on a quest to locate her missing brother, an onmyoji (a practitioner of Japanese esoteric cosmology). The game takes players into a mysterious mansion where the layout changes each time, creating a unique experience with every playthrough. Sounds become a key gameplay element; players must keenly listen to auditory cues to identify different types of Mononoke (supernatural beings) and can lure them into traps to defeat them.
Rather than relying solely on brute force, players are encouraged to think strategically, using sound and the environment to their advantage. The game is designed to be accessible, ensuring even those who may not excel at action games can enjoy the thrilling adventure.
Three Modes of Play across 53 Mansions
1. Purification Mode (Harahe)
In this narrative-rich mode, players join Yono on her journey to fulfill missions from the family while secretly searching for her brother. The mansion's layout remains constant, offering fixed placements of Mononoke and items, allowing for puzzle-like gameplay.
2. Purification Mode (Misogi)
Perfect for those looking for a quick and exciting experience, this mode features randomly generated small-scale mansions. Players can complete these in a matter of minutes, making it feel like a casual escape game.
3. Like Mode (Gyou)
For seasoned players, this survival-oriented roguelike mode presents an infinite challenge. Players manage resources while navigating high-difficulty towers and underground mansions, competing for the highest score on online leaderboards.
Gameplay Dynamics
The game features various Mononoke, from massive, imposing figures like
Shinen Gaki to those that might engage with Yono rather than attack her outright. Players will often need to decide whether to confront or avoid these supernatural beings.
Yono may also trigger her alternate persona,
Shiyome Yono, under specific conditions. This transformation enhances her combat abilities, giving her greater power in battles.
Meet the Talented Creators
Notably,
Kenichi Iwao, renowned for his work on titles like
Resident Evil and
Final Fantasy XI, serves as the director and game designer. The character design is led by
