Okayama University Enhances Cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University for Global Education

Strengthening Global Collaboration Between Okayama University and Adam Mickiewicz University

On July 8, 2025, Okayama University welcomed two prominent delegates from their partner institution, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) in Poland. The visit was led by Professor Rafał Witkowski, the Vice-Rector, and Professor Beata Bochorodycz, the Director of the Institute of Asian Studies and Head of the Japanese Language Department. This meeting is expected to enhance the ongoing collaboration between the two universities in various aspects, focusing particularly on international education.

Adam Mickiewicz University, established in 1919, is renowned as one of Poland's top comprehensive universities. It has been engaged with Okayama University under the EPOK agreement, which facilitates student exchange programs, allowing AMU students to study in Japan and vice versa. The recent discussions aimed to strengthen these ties further, moving beyond mere student exchanges to include collaborative research initiatives and faculty interactions as well.

During the meeting, which included Okayama University's Vice President Mitsuhiro Okayasu and faculty involved in the global talents program, participants engaged in lively discussions about their shared goals. They explored ways to provide a more robust framework for collaboration in research and education, ultimately benefiting students from both institutions.

The Global Talent Development Institute at Okayama University is committed to realizing a vision for internationalization by 2035, aiming to create an environment where Japanese students and international students can learn together. This purpose aligns perfectly with the mission of enhancing global cooperation with AMU, which will continue to provide various opportunities for international co-learning, including the reception of international students and sending Okayama University students abroad.

This enhanced partnership comes at a time when Okayama University is actively working towards establishing its future identity, inspired by its designation as a regionally central and distinctive research university. The institution has been actively engaging in projects that align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In fact, it has received accolades, including a special award at the first Japan SDGs Awards, recognizing its contributions to sustainable development efforts.

Moreover, the EPOK program is an essential part of their international strategy. It is designed to facilitate incoming international students and provide outgoing study abroad opportunities for Okayama University students, fostering a truly global educational environment. Both institutions are currently collaborating on programs that focus on global citizenship and international competency, essential skills in today’s interconnected world.

In summary, the recent visit from AMU’s delegation represents a significant step towards strengthening international partnerships and promoting a more profound exchange of ideas and knowledge between Okayama University and Adam Mickiewicz University. Both institutions are excited about the potential for deeper collaboration in research and education, paving the way for a brighter future in global education.
