CTA Constructions Awarded Project for Innovative Countryside Elementary School
CTA Construction Managers Awarded New School Contract
In an exciting development for the educational landscape of Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, CTA Construction Managers has recently secured the contract to construct a brand-new Countryside Elementary School. This significant project will replace the existing 1953 structure, which has been deemed outdated due to its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, alongside issues relating to space and accessibility.
The new school, covering an impressive 76,000 square feet across three stories, is designed with a focus on sustainability and innovation. Located adjacent to the existing facility, the construction will proceed in phases, ensuring that current staff and students can remain on site throughout the project’s duration. This careful planning minimizes disruptions and showcases a commitment to both education and community continuity.
The architectural design for the Countryside Elementary School comes from the acclaimed Boston-based firm, DiNisco Design. The building will proudly feature the first geothermal heating and cooling system in any city-owned facility in Newton. This marks a critical step forward for the city’s green initiatives, aligning with its mission toward better energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
“As Newton continues to invest in its educational infrastructure, this project exemplifies our dedication to providing a modern learning environment for our future generation,” stated Josh Morse, Public Buildings Commissioner for the City of Newton. The incorporation of cutting-edge sustainable practices ensures that the new school will not only serve the current students but also future cohorts in a responsible manner.
In partnership with DiNisco Design, CTA Construction Managers brings an impressive track record to this project. This will be their third major collaboration with the city, having previously completed the Spaulding Elementary School and currently managing construction for the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School. This extensive experience reflects a long-standing trust and cooperation between the city and CTA.
Donna DiNisco, Principal at DiNisco Design, emphasized the importance of the project saying, “This endeavor is a testament to Newton's progressive approach towards education and sustainability. We are honored to continue our partnership with CTA Construction Managers in delivering a state-of-the-art learning facility that meets the needs of our students.”
The scale and sophistication of the school structure also drew attention from the city’s project management partner, Dore Whittier. Partner Mike Burton expressed pride in being involved in yet another significant undertaking, stating, “We are honored that the city continues to trust us with managing such high-profile and impactful capital projects. The new Countryside Elementary School is set to become a landmark, and we are excited to be part of its development.”
CTA Construction Managers, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, specializes across various sectors including municipal, academic, multi-family residential, commercial, and senior care facilities, with a portfolio exceeding $2.0 billion. Since its establishment in 2000, the firm has partnered with diverse groups, awarding over $150 million in contracts to small, veteran, disadvantaged, minority, and women-owned businesses. Their leadership in green building practices has helped numerous clients achieve sustainability certifications such as LEED and MA-CHPS.
In conclusion, the new Countryside Elementary School in Newton Highlands is not just a construction project, but a commitment to fostering an advanced educational environment. It reflects the collaborative efforts of CTA Construction Managers, DiNisco Design, and the City of Newton, in paving the way toward a sustainable and effective learning space for generations to come.
