China's Largest Electrochemical Energy Storage Project Achieves Major Milestone with SINEXCEL's Technology
China's Largest Electrochemical Energy Storage Project
In a landmark achievement, China has unveiled its largest project in electrochemical energy storage, boasting an impressive capacity of 600 MW/2400 MWh. This monumental project has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the installation of all storage containers at its initial site. With this achievement, the project is now poised to transition into the operational phase, furthering China's goals in renewable energy integration.
Project Overview
The project represents the first high-voltage direct current (UHV) initiative in China that seamlessly combines wind, solar, thermal, and energy storage technologies. The system is powered by SINEXCEL's cutting-edge power conversion system (PCS), which operates at a capacity of 1725 kW, making it capable of adapting to various power environments and scenarios.
Located at the heart of this massive endeavor are 240 battery containers and 60 PCS units. Once operational, the entire energy storage system is expected to feed approximately 840 GWh of renewable energy into the national grid annually. In practical terms, this means that a single full charge can hold up to 2.4 GWh, sufficient to meet the daily electrical needs of around 480,000 households or to supply power for 36,000 electric vehicles, each having a driving range of 500 kilometers.
Additional Initiatives
In its commitment to advancing renewable energy, SINEXCEL has also successfully connected a parallel 220 MW/880 MWh storage project to the grid in Ningxia. This innovative project leverages the region’s abundant solar resources, effectively integrating solar power with storage capabilities, thereby addressing renewable energy curtailment issues, enhancing grid stability, and managing energy transitions. It’s projected that this facility will contribute nearly 200 GWh of electricity annually.
SINEXCEL's Technological Innovations
SINEXCEL is equipped with a 1725 kW PCS system that significantly boosts grid stability through its modular architecture, which can scale from 215 kW to 1.72 MW per unit. Its design accommodates both centralized and decentralized configurations, supporting diverse battery types and allowing flexible applications across various scenarios, including large commercial and industrial setups, microgrids, and pre-metering applications.
With an industry-leading efficiency of up to 98.5%, the energy conversion system employs advanced multi-string technology that offers enhanced battery protection. The PCS also supports customizable configurations with outputs scalable to 1, 2, 4, or 8 battery strings, streamlining control and expansion.
Moreover, its robust construction, featuring NEMA 3R rated enclosures, ensures durability against environmental conditions, complemented by a rapid 10 ms response time for real-time grid balancing. It meets critical certification standards in regions such as North America, Europe, Australia, Japan, and China.
SINEXCEL operates globally across over 40 countries with more than 5,000 installations that collectively provide over 12 GW of storage capacity. Its expert solutions cater to utility, commercial, industrial, and microgrid applications. Participation in trailblazing projects like these underscores SINEXCEL's technological strength and its relentless commitment to fostering a resilient and sustainable energy future.
