Exploring Creativity: 'Éclosion - Isshidan Enmeijo and Children'

Starting from September 23 to October 2, 2026, the exhibit 'Éclosion - Isshidan Enmeijo and Children' will be held at the Earth Garden on the first floor of Mitsui Sumitomo Bank, located in Marunouchi, Tokyo. This event, organized by L'Atelier des Étoiles, showcases a vibrant collection of artworks created through collaboration between children and the renowned artist, Isshidan Enmeijo.

One of the main highlights of this exhibition is the 'Sound Mikoshi', which emerged from an art workshop held at the Mitsui Sumitomo Bank Ginza branch during the 'Yukata de Ginbura 2026' event, alongside a creative program for all 4th graders at Seijo Gakuen Elementary School. Here, children were inspired to contribute their unique ideas, which Isshidan Enmeijo then developed further into expansive artistic expressions.

Isshidan Enmeijo’s practice involves a deep exploration of the memories and functions embedded in objects, disassembling them and resurrecting them as part of a new creation. By engaging in this process, the artist examines materials not as passive elements but as entities with their own narratives and histories, thereby revealing the potential for new roles and meanings. This approach creates a dynamic interplay between the past and the present, fostering a deeper understanding of the intrinsic connections people have with the objects around them.

The works showcased in this exhibition serve not only as remnants of past memories but as transformative artifacts that nurture new relationships between people and materials. The workshop that took place during the Yukata de Ginbura event invited children to get creative with arts using abandoned or discarded items. This unique engagement allowed them to explore sound, movement, and expression through various materials. Isshidan Enmeijo actively translated their insights into the 'Sound Mikoshi', amplifying the essence of their contributions and transforming them into a cohesive work of art.

In addition, on September 27, a special free workshop led by Isshidan Enmeijo will take place, specifically designed for children. Titled 'In-depth Observation & Inquiry: A Miniature Garden Workshop Linking with the World', this workshop will prompt participants to carefully observe the featured artworks and materials, fostering their imagination about the stories and histories behind each item while creating their own miniature gardens using recycled materials. This experience aims to cultivate a deeper awareness of the value of everyday materials and prompt discussions about our everyday decisions and lifestyles.
