DENSO Donates 41 Bicycles to Support Guelph Community During Holidays

DENSO's Community Commitment Shines Through the Build-a-Bike Program

DENSO's thermal manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ontario, recently made a heartwarming contribution to the local community by assembling and donating 41 bicycles to the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition (GNSC). This effort is part of the ongoing Build-a-Bike campaign, which highlights DENSO's dedication to quality, team spirit, and community engagement during the holiday season.

The Build-a-Bike initiative has been running since 2017, allowing DENSO employees to collaborate and contribute to the well-being of local families. Although the program was on hold for two years due to the pandemic, this year’s donation reflects the company's unwavering commitment. In total, DENSO has gifted 238 bicycles to families in need throughout the years.

During a gathering at the Guelph facility, DENSO not only presented the bicycles but also gave away helmets, ensuring safety for every recipient. This touching moment encapsulated the event's essence, as representatives from DENSO and GNSC joined in celebration of community togetherness.

Brendan Johnson, executive director of GNSC, expressed his gratitude, stating, "When our community comes together for a common cause, good things happen. We're grateful for DENSO's commitment to Build-a-Bike, which amounts to much more than just assembling bicycles. It can make all the difference in creating a memorable holiday for our neighbours and friends in Guelph. These bikes are a gift of love and kindness to the community."

The process begins each fall as employees at DENSO Guelph team up to earn bicycle parts, reinforcing principles of product quality and teamwork while assembling the bikes. Grand River Cycle is responsible for inspecting the bicycles before they are distributed. As the holidays approach, GNSC coordinates matching the bikes with local families and arranging deliveries.

This year’s bicycles cater to different age groups, from young children to adults, ensuring that everyone in the community can enjoy them. John Klassen, president of the DENSO Guelph facility, shared his admiration for the collaboration involved in the initiative, stating, "Whether we're building an automotive product or a bike for a family, our focus on quality and safety always shines through. I’d like to thank our DENSO team, GNSC, and Grand River Cycle for making this a fun opportunity to use our manufacturing skills to help those in the community."

Moreover, DENSO also announced a donation of C$2,000 to GNSC's North End Harvest Market, further demonstrating its commitment to feeding the local community and supporting its needs.

For 2023, DENSO's Guelph location received recognition as one of the Waterloo Area’s Top Employers, further underscoring its dedication not only to its employees but also to the community it serves. As it continues to hire for various roles, DENSO emphasizes the importance of joining their mission to impact the community positively.

DENSO, a global leader in mobility, showcases how corporations can effectively contribute to society while fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities. The spirit of giving during this holiday season is a testament to DENSO’s belief in fostering strong community relationships and supporting families in need. This year, the bicycles represent more than just a mode of transportation; they symbolize hope, unity, and the true spirit of community support.
