In an effort to combat food insecurity, the PG&E Corporation Foundation has announced a generous donation of $1.12 million directed towards local food banks and meal distribution organizations throughout California. This significant funding aims to support more than 50 food distribution initiatives located in 46 counties, specifically in the Northern and Central California service areas of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).
This donation is expected to provide the equivalent of approximately 3.13 million meals, helping numerous individuals and families facing food shortages. The California Association of Food Banks has acknowledged the importance of this support, especially given the recent federal cuts to SNAP (CalFresh) and reductions in funding for vital healthcare programs. Alarmingly, while California is known for producing almost half of the country's fruits and vegetables, over 20% of its residents are uncertain about where their next meal will come from, with communities of color experiencing even higher rates of food insecurity.

CEO Leslie Bacho noted, "Currently, we assist 1 in 6 individuals each month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. PG&E's contribution will help provide over 148,000 meals, ensuring families, children, and seniors have access to nutritious food."

The foundation also collaborates with food banks situated in high fire-risk areas to establish food replacement protocols during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). To further assist those in need, PG&E also organizes Community Resource Centers during PSPS events to provide essential supplies, information, and power charging stations for affected customers. Additional resources, including transportation support and hotel accommodations, may also be accessible.
