A Celebration of Passion at the YOANI Academy Festival 2026
On June 20 and 21, 2026, the YOANI Academy Festival was held at various locations including Tokyo, Ikebukuro, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, and Sapporo, organized by the Yoani Animation Academy. This year’s theme was "Passionately Pursue What You Love!" and the event kicked off the festival series spanning two weekends across nine campuses.
The festival showcased the creative endeavors of students pursuing careers in voice acting, animation, illustration, manga, VTubing, and live production. It was an exhilarating atmosphere filled with enthusiasm for their chosen professions.
Special Lecture by Yuki Kaji: The Future of Voice Acting in the AI Era
At the Tokyo campus, renowned voice actor Yuki Kaji delivered a special lecture titled “The Future of Voice Acting in the Age of AI.” Students from various programs attended this lecture, which was simultaneously broadcasted to all campuses, allowing aspiring voice actors across Japan to share the experience and learn together. Kaji discussed the evolving environment for voice actors, the opportunities AI presents, and the essential attitudes that expressive artists should maintain, using his personal experiences as examples. He emphasized, "While I want to create positively alongside AI, there are definitely elements that only humans can produce, and I firmly believe humans will not lose this battle. This represents a challenge from the producer of the AI voice project ‘Soyogi Fractal’ to Yuki Kaji as a voice actor." This heartfelt message resonated with students who attentively absorbed his wisdom.
Laughter with PecoPaw and Go☆Jas
The festival also included an electrifying comedy performance featuring PecoPaw at the Tokyo campus, where they entertained the audience with their hilarious skits. They even joined in for dubbing some of the students’ creations, making it a unique collaborative experience that highlighted the festival's spirit. In Hiroshima, alumni Go☆Jas returned to fire up the event, showcasing the success of a former student and igniting excitement among attendees. Experiencing performances up close from professional entertainers inspired the students and provided motivation for their future careers.
Engaging Talks with ≒JOY
Tokyo campus also hosted a talk with members of ≒JOY, including Rei Asaka, Mitsuki Oshinuma, and Mai Takahashi, along with Taro Ito, the manager of the idol groups =LOVE, ≠ME, and ≒JOY. The discussion centered on both the performing and support roles within the entertainment industry, offering insights into their motivations for pursuing their careers and the principles they uphold. This dialogue allowed students to learn from both the perspectives of those on stage and the operational side that supports performances. By understanding the hard work behind the glamorous scenes, students were inspired to visualize their future endeavors in the entertainment sector more concretely.
Vibrant Displays of Talent
Across all campuses, students showcased their skills through singing, dancing, and narrated performances, as well as screenings of student-created animations and art exhibitions. The performances allowed students to demonstrate their developed expressive skills, receiving applause and cheers from an energetic crowd. Meanwhile, the screenings of student-produced animations and the art exhibition highlighted their creativity and techniques, showcasing the unique individuality each student brings to their work.
Upcoming Events
The celebrations continue on June 27 and 28 at Osaka, Nagoya, Sendai, and Kanazawa campuses, where students will present diverse events, engaging showcases, and hands-on programs unique to each location.
