Covenant Ballet Theatre Presents 'Bach to the Streets'
The vibrant community of Brooklyn is about to celebrate the arts in an extraordinary way. The Covenant Ballet Theatre of Brooklyn (CBT) is set to unveil its final performance of the season, 'Bach to the Streets.' This unique initiative, which has seen great success since its inception in 2022, combines classical music and dance in a series of free outdoor performances designed to make the arts accessible to everyone.
In partnership with the renowned Brooklyn Youth Music Project (BYMP), CBT promises to deliver an unforgettable experience this May. The show features live orchestral arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach's beloved compositions performed by talented students aged 10-18 from BYMP. Alongside these young musicians, eleven dancers from CBT's Youth Company, aged 11-17, will bring the music to life through captivating choreography.
A Dynamic Presentation
What sets 'Bach to the Streets' apart is not only its free access to the audiences but also the innovative merging of live orchestra music with dance performances. Each show transforms common community spaces into dynamic performance venues, allowing audiences to witness the synergy of these two art forms in real time.
The upcoming performances will take place on Saturday, May 30th, at two locations: the Sheepshead Bay Library at 1:00 PM and Lady Moody Triangle Park at 4:00 PM. It’s important to note that there are no rain dates planned for these shows, so the community is encouraged to come out and enjoy this special celebration of art and culture.
Commitment to Community Engagement
Covenant Ballet Theatre’s initiatives strive to make the arts visible, vibrant, and experiential for everyone—transforming everyday places to foster community connection. The organization prides itself on its cutting-edge approach to performance, blending artistic excellence with a commitment to accessibility. This season's project has been made possible with support from the New York Council on the Arts, with additional sponsorship from Ridgewood Savings Bank.
Since its founding in 1987, CBT has dedicated itself to serving the children and families of South Brooklyn, providing rich cultural activities and professional training opportunities in an engaging environment. Artistic Director Marla Hirokawa's vision has led the organization to produce original ballets and educational programming that have allowed countless students to excel and pursue careers in dance with esteemed companies, such as the Martha Graham Dance Company and Alvin Ailey.
