BoldVoice Secures $21 Million to Empower Non-Native English Speakers with AI Coaching

In a significant development for non-native English professionals, BoldVoice has successfully raised $21 million in its Series A funding round, led by Matrix Partners, with contributions from various notable investors like Y Combinator and Flybridge. This funding comes as BoldVoice continues to address the needs of the estimated one billion non-native English speakers across the globe who encounter challenges when communicating in their second language.

The platform, which utilizes advanced artificial intelligence, has already achieved an impressive annual recurring revenue (ARR) of over $10 million with only seven employees, demonstrating the high demand for such services. To date, BoldVoice has amassed more than five million downloads and is actively serving customers in over 150 countries.

In today’s globalized economy, English has become the universal language essential for effective communication in the workplace, especially for professionals participating in meetings, presentations, and discussions with clients spanning various regions. Despite the sheer number of non-native speakers, many face barriers such as pronunciation challenges, which can negatively impact their career trajectories. Studies indicate that individuals with foreign accents often miss out on promotions and professional opportunities due to their perceived communication limitations.

BoldVoice aims to dismantle these barriers by providing a platform that helps users improve their speech clarity and confidence. By offering real-time feedback on pronunciation through proprietary speech models, users can record their voice and receive precise, phoneme-level insights. This immediate feedback is complemented by expert-led coaching tutorials, allowing users to practice consistently and track their progress effectively.

Anada Lakra, co-founder and CEO, aptly highlighted the gap in the market: “AI has revolutionized how we write, but the domain of spoken communication has been largely neglected, despite its critical role in fostering trust and sealing deals.” The focus of BoldVoice is to empower non-native English speakers by equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate English communication successfully and confidently, thereby enhancing their career potential.

Ilya Usorov, co-founder and CTO, echoed Lakra’s sentiments by emphasizing the precision required in speech feedback. Unlike general speech recognition technologies, BoldVoice is engineered specifically to recognize and address the nuances in accented speech, making it more effective for its intended user base. This focus on nuanced feedback not only enhances the user experience but also contributes to the platform's efficacy in improving user communication skills.

Traditional methods of speech and accent coaching can be prohibitively expensive, often costing upwards of $200 to $300 per hour. In contrast, BoldVoice provides unlimited, on-demand practice at a significantly lower annual cost, thus ensuring that high-quality communication training is accessible worldwide. “Countless careers of non-native speakers are stymied by challenges that are indeed coachable,
