Chikuma Unveils New Uniforms for the Revamped Uzumasa Film Village

Chikuma Introduces New Uniforms for Uzumasa Film Village

Chikuma Co., Ltd., headquartered in Osaka, is proud to announce the creation of new staff uniforms for the Uzumasa Film Village, operated by Toei Uzumasa Movie Village, marking its significant 50th anniversary. As the park gears up for a major renovation that includes a complete revitalization of its facilities, these uniforms encapsulate the spirit of innovation and tradition intrinsic to the park's evolution.

Uzumasa Film Village Celebrates 50 Years

The Uzumasa Film Village has embarked on a complete overhaul to commemorate its 50th year, with the first phase of the renovation set to reopen on March 28, 2026. The aim is to enhance the visitor experience from merely observing Japanese culture to fully immersing in it. The new park concept invites guests to step back in time, offering an authentic taste of life during the Edo period, with enchanting alleyways alive with the aesthetics of Japan’s rich heritage.

Design Inspiration of the New Uniforms

The uniforms crafted by Chikuma draw direct inspiration from the job roles of the Edo period. For the entrance staff, the design incorporates the red and white cords typically carried by gatekeepers, symbolizing their role in welcoming visitors. These gatekeepers, known as 'Kido-ban', were essential in Edo Japan, using clappers to signal the opening of gates, creating a vibrant atmosphere upon entry.

In addition, the sales and cultural experience staff will sport uniforms that evoke the imagery of Edo working scenes, featuring a traditional 'tasuki' style that showcases a line of decorative tasuki on the back, along with delicate shibori patterns on the sleeves.

Accessories such as brooches, pouches, and hats elegantly utilize the renowned 'Kyo Kumihimo' craftsmanship from Uji City in Kyoto, further embedding regional authenticity into the uniforms. Notably, the brooch worn by the information staff is designed to resemble the decorative knots seen in the Gion Matsuri festival.

This meticulous attention to detail not only represents a dedication to aesthetics but also exemplifies a commitment to sustainability. After their lifespan, the uniforms will be recycled into automotive interior materials through the 'Wide-area Certification System' recognized by the Minister of the Environment in Japan. This assures that every piece, while beautiful and functional, also contributes to a greener future by minimizing waste.

Chikuma's Commitment to Quality and the Environment

With over 120 years of experience, Chikuma excels at creating a diverse range of uniforms while prioritizing environmental consciousness. The company’s progressive measures include inventory management systems, recovery, recycling initiatives, and developing high-quality uniforms tailored to meet customers' needs. The recent projects underline Chikuma's ethos of merging functionality with aesthetic beauty, crafting each piece with a story—especially in the context of the Uzumasa Film Village.
