Breaking Boundaries in Dance and Music: A.P.I.'s Upcoming Performance 'decr.'

A.P.I.'s Groundbreaking Performance 'decr.' Unveiled

The innovative artist collective A.P.I., led by choreographer and performance media artist Yuzo Ishiyama, is set to mesmerize audiences with their latest work, "decr." This performance will take place on March 14 and 15, 2026, at R's Art Court, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Tickets for this unique event will go on sale via Confetti, managed by Long Run Planning Co., Ltd., starting from January 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

'"decr." (pronounced "dee-ec-ar") represents a groundbreaking cross-genre performance that breaks down the traditional barriers between dance and music, positioning itself as a one-of-a-kind artistic endeavor in the global performing arts landscape. In this unique setup, the performers will don wireless devices, creating an immersive experience where their actions will simultaneously produce a live soundtrack while they perform.

The synergy between dancing and musical expression in this approach is virtually unparalleled in the performing arts scene worldwide. A.P.I.'s ability to continually push the boundaries of artistic methodology draws parallels with cutting-edge independent music labels such as WARP, Modern Love, and Basic Channel, which are known for their unique contributions to the electronic music scene. The detailed and chaotic nature of this live work, 'decr.', stands out with its energetic vibe, making it an essential experience in today’s world of experimental performances.

The performance aims to highlight the pervasive feelings of stagnancy and decline that resonate deeply in the current era. The theme encapsulates a collective sentiment many face today, a sense of resignation that “no matter what I do, the situation won’t change.” A.P.I.'s 'decr.' does not shy away from these sentiments, instead offering a meticulous portrayal of this emotion on stage through the imagery of performers who seem frozen and unable to take action, thus echoing the very essence of the title itself.

The term "decr." is borrowed from the musical concept of "decrescendo," which signifies a gradual decrease in sound. This title perfectly encapsulates the themes resonating with contemporary society today.

About A.P.I.

A.P.I. is an artist collective centered around performance media artist and choreographer Yuzo Ishiyama. Known for their dance piece 'QWERTY,' which has been showcased at renowned digital art festivals such as "Bains Numériques" in France and Brazil’s "Panorama Festival," A.P.I. has been at the forefront of contemporary dance. Their "0dB" project, which began in 2016, challenged the notion of presence with silent performances where both the audience and performers wore headphones.

In 2024, A.P.I. presented the live art piece '(NO W)AVE,' which effectively blurred the lines between dancer and musician, leading to their participation in the Hong Kong International Dance Workshop Festival the following year. Yuzo Ishiyama has also engaged in various projects, serving as a guest choreographer for the New National Theatre Ballet Company.
