Anheuser-Busch Invests in the Future of Brewing in Williamsburg, Virginia
Anheuser-Busch, the iconic American brewer known for its renowned brands including Michelob ULTRA and Budweiser, has unveiled plans for a substantial
$5.8 million investment in its Williamsburg, Virginia brewery. This funding is a part of the company's broader commitment to enhancing American manufacturing within the brewing sector, set against the backdrop of its
$600 million initiative aimed at improving operations across the nation.
The investment specifically targets the promotion of
Michelob ULTRA, which has rapidly risen to become the
#1 top-selling and fastest-growing beer in the United States. With this new injection of capital, Anheuser-Busch intends to bolster the production capabilities of its Williamsburg facility while also enhancing its workforce through a custom-built
technical skills training center. This facility will serve as a critical educational resource for local employees, supporting the development of manufacturing talents that are essential for the industry's future.
According to
Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch, the decision to invest in the Williamsburg Brewery underscores a dual commitment: providing high-quality beer while stimulating job growth and economic sustainability in the local community. "Our investment allows us to continue producing the highest-quality American beers we have crafted for generations," Whitworth remarked.
The Williamsburg Brewery has been a
cornerstone of the community since 1972, and the recent financial investment will further solidify its presence and capability in Virginia.
Tom Jokerst, the General Manager of the Williamsburg Brewery, expressed that this investment reflects the company's ongoing dedication to excellence in brewing and to supporting the local economy while also committing to bettering the workforce for the future.
This technical skills training center is just one of
15 locations nationwide that Anheuser-Busch plans to establish, aiming to enhance employee skills across various disciplines, including technical fundamentals, digital tools, and advanced mechanical systems. The goal is to upskill over
90% of the manufacturing workforce within a five-year timeframe, setting a benchmark for industry practices.
Moreover, Anheuser-Busch is reinforcing its relationship with veterans through partnerships like the
Manufacturing Institute's Heroes MAKE America initiative, which aims to facilitate manufacturing career paths for service members. This initiative not only helps transition military skills to manufacturing jobs but also ensures that the Williamsburg Brewery employs a significant number of veterans, accounting for nearly
20% of its workforce.
In celebration of its legacy, the Williamsburg Brewery is also gearing up for a public event on May 30, 2026, to commemorate
Budweiser's 150th anniversary alongside
America's 250th birthday. This celebration will host local food vendors, games, and appearances from the famous Budweiser Clydesdales, reaffirming the brewery's commitment to community engagement and support for local causes.
With over
$50 million invested in the Williamsburg brewery over the past five years, Anheuser-Busch continues to demonstrate its role as a key economic driver within Virginia's manufacturing landscape. As the company expands its operations with the latest investment, it sets a promising trajectory for the future of brewing and workforce development in the region, contributing significantly to the American manufacturing heritage.
