Experience the Thrills of Traditional Japanese Martial Arts at Kashima Shrine

Join Us for the 16th Annual Traditional Martial Arts Demonstration Festival



On October 5th, 2025, the 16th Annual Traditional Martial Arts Demonstration Festival will take place at the renowned Kashima Shrine in Kashima City, Ibaraki Prefecture. This special event is free for all attendees and takes place at the shrine dedicated to the martial god, Takemikazuchi no Ookami.

The festival will feature an impressive performance by approximately 32 schools of traditional Japanese martial arts, each showcasing their unique styles and techniques at a specially constructed demonstration area in front of the Main Shrine. With autumn upon us, this is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of budo (martial arts).

The event promises diverse representations from various schools, including but not limited to:
  • - Katori Shinto-Ryu Kenjutsu
  • - Chikubushima-ryu Bojutsu
  • - Okinawa Gojyu-ryu Bujutsu
  • - Shigen-ryu Heihou Kenjutsu
  • - Jikishinkage-ryu Naginata
  • - Takeuchi-ryu Jujutsu and more.

This gathering is not only a magnificent display of skill but also an opportunity to connect with martial arts enthusiasts and scholars. Families and individuals will have the chance to witness the depth of each art and the heritage they carry.

The event is organized by the Japan Budo Association and Kashima Shrine, with support from various cultural and governmental organizations such as the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Ibaraki Prefecture, Kashima City, and the Kashima City Tourism Association.
