Troy Podmilsak's Stellar Win at the FIS World Cup
In a thrilling start to the season,
Troy Podmilsak, a talented rider from
Monster Energy, clinched first place in the Men's Freeski Big Air event at the FIS World Cup held at
Secret Garden, China. This victory is significant not only as the season opener for the
2025/26 FIS Freeski circuit but also marks a moment of redemption for Podmilsak following a challenging previous season.
The FIS Freeski Big Air event took place from November 28 to 29, drawing over 110 of the world’s best professional skiers. The competition featured renowned athletes, including Olympic champions and X Games winners, solidifying
Secret Garden as a prime location since it also hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Podmilsak, who came into the finals with a rich background as a former Big Air world champion and X Games gold medallist, was looking to regain his momentum. His last notable performance at a FIS World Cup was in 2022, where he secured third place in Switzerland. After missing the podium last season, his aim this time was to make a strong statement.
During the final, Podmilsak showcased impressive skills right from his first run. He executed a flawless switch right triple 1980 safety grab, earning 90.25 points, placing him second on the leaderboard. However, he wasn’t done yet. On his next attempt, he raised the stakes with a technically demanding right triple 2160 mute grab, scoring a whopping 95.25 points. This brought his total score to 185.50 points, earning him a well-deserved victory and setting him at the top of the leaderboard for the start of the new season.
Post-victory, Podmilsak reflected on his journey, expressing how surreal it felt to start the World Cup season with a win. "Coming back to the top feels great, especially after a tough year with no podiums. I was eager to make a mark this season," he stated, radiating excitement and motivation for the challenges ahead. His triumph in
Secret Garden positions him favorably among the seven American skiers vying for a spot on the U.S. men's Olympic Freeski team ahead of the upcoming
2026 Winter Olympics.
Joining Podmilsak on the podium was his teammate
Luca Harrington, an accomplished skier from
Wānaka, New Zealand, who placed third. Harrington, a reigning Crystal Globe champion in the Big Air discipline, wowed the audience with his signature switch right triple 1800 esco grab in his first run, scoring 91.75 points and later following up with another impressive landing of a right triple 1980 safety grab that totaled 176.00 points. His performance highlighted the depth of talent among Monster Energy athletes, securing two spots on the podium.
As the FIS Freeski World Cup continues, with the next event slated for December 4 in
Beijing, China, fans and followers are encouraged to stay tuned as the competition unfolds. This season is crucial as it shapes the roster for the
Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. For more updates on
