Thermos Partners with Alvark Tokyo
In an exciting development for sports and sustainability, Thermos Inc., a leading global company known for its insulated products, has officially signed a Gold Partner contract with the professional basketball team, Alvark Tokyo. This partnership will commence in the 2025-26 season and marks a significant step towards promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle in the world of sports.
Since 2021, Thermos has collaborated with Alvark Tokyo as an SDGs partner on the "My Bottle Promotion Project," which aims to reduce plastic waste at game venues. In an impressive demonstration of their commitment, during two home games of the 2024-25 season, the Thermos booth allowed fans to borrow reusable tumblers instead of using disposable drink containers, successfully eliminating 163 disposable drink containers from the waste stream. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the project's success.
Key Initiatives for the 2025-26 Season
As part of this partnership, several initiatives will be implemented to foster sustainability:
1. Introduction of Drink Container Reuse Service
Thermos will fully launch a drink container reuse service at Alvark Tokyo's new home arena, TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO, set to open in October 2025. This initiative aims to replace disposable drink containers with reusable vacuum insulated tumblers in arena food and beverage outlets, establishing a sustainable container cycle. Prior to the full launch, two pilot tests were conducted during home games on March 29 and April 26, 2025, wherein fans could rent reusable tumblers from the Thermos booth, resulting in a reduction of waste by 163 containers. Each game will feature 250 reusable tumblers available for free rental, with discounts available for users on drink purchases.
2. Continuation of the My Bottle Promotion Project
The My Bottle Promotion Project invites fans to bring their own bottles to reduce plastic waste at home games. Launched in partnership with Alvark Tokyo in 2021, this initiative rewards fans who bring their own bottles with a stamp system via the Alvark Tokyo official app. Collecting stamps leads to rewards such as exclusive stickers, T-shirts, and Thermos products, with a maximum of two stamps available per game – one for bringing a bottle and one for sharing a photo on social media.
3. THERMOS Seats: Unlimited Drinks
In an innovative move, the THERMOS Seats will be introduced at Alvark Tokyo's home games, where fans can enjoy unlimited drinks during the game using vacuum insulated tumblers. Available for 30 home games as paired seating (5 sets for 10 seats each), this initiative not only enhances the experience of watching the game but also provides a souvenir in the form of an original Thermos vacuum jug.
4. Recycling Initiative for Used Stainless Steel Bottles
To promote the recycling of stainless steel bottles, Thermos will set up recycling boxes at every Alvark home game. Patrons who drop off their used stainless steel bottles will receive an exclusive Thermos novelty item in return. The collected bottles will undergo recycling processes and be transformed into raw materials for new products.
