A Journey Through the Works of Mutsumi Inomata at the Tokiwaso Manga Museum
The Tokiwaso Manga Museum in Toshima City will host a special exhibition titled "Mutsumi Inomata Retrospective: A Journey Through Creativity," starting from December 6, 2025, until March 22, 2026. This exhibition celebrates Mutsumi Inomata’s remarkable career as an illustrator and character designer, spanning over 40 years in the industry.
Inomata's contributions to the world of art and entertainment are vast, spanning anime, novels, and video game series. The exhibition will showcase about 60 pieces of original artwork, primarily focusing on his hand-drawn illustrations that have brought to life many beloved characters and stories. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant colors and intricate lines that define Inomata’s distinct style.
Among the highlights of the exhibition are exclusive monochrome illustrations used as novel illustrations, along with unpublished manga works, offering a rare glimpse into Inomata's artistic process. The fine pen strokes that are characteristic of black-and-white line art will be on display, providing an impressive view of the meticulous craftsmanship behind each piece.
A representative from Toshima City excitedly shared, “Throughout the exhibition period, we will feature illustrations from Inomata’s works inspired by Osamu Tezuka, including pieces related to 'Ribbon no Kishi' and 'Black Jack.' Additionally, we will refresh some of the exhibits in two phases to encourage people to come back and experience both parts of the exhibition.”
