A Fond Farewell to Takashimadaira's Elementary School

As the end nears for Takashimadaira Elementary School, the community is preparing for a heartfelt farewell. On October 26, 2023, the Urban Design Center Takashimadaira (UDCTak) will co-host the third event titled "Muneoroshiki @ Takashimadaira Elementary" as part of the "Grand Finale Project" aimed at commemorating the school.

The decision to hold this farewell event comes in response to community requests for a chance to bid farewell to the school before its upcoming demolition. Set for March 14, 2024, the Grand Finale event will allow former students and local residents to revisit their cherished memories of the school. Throughout the year leading to the finale, "Muneoroshiki" has been designed to celebrate the school's legacy, focusing on gratitude and reminiscence through a series of initiatives. A fourth event will follow in December 2023, further enhancing the community's engagement leading up to the Grand Finale.

Third Muneoroshiki Event Details

The third installment will take place at the school premises and coincide with the Takashimadaira Festival, allowing attendees to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this local celebration.

During this event, participants will have the opportunity to tour nearly every classroom, which will be open for public viewing for the first time. Attendees can also share their emotions and memories on a designated message wall, providing a space to express their appreciation for the school. In addition to this, a digital stamp rally, "Takashimadaira Forever! Kinoko Rally!" organized by alumni, offers a fun quest format to engage with trivia related to the school and the Takashimadaira area.

Additionally, the "Enjoying Takashimadaira Meeting" will be held, inviting community members to brainstorm innovative ideas without being confined by past conventions (registration required). Collaborating with the Itabashi Design Club, a design contest for "Takashimadaira T-shirts" will also be held. A showcase of products made from school waste materials will be part of the "Takashamadaira Upcycle Project."
