Panasonic Automotive Systems Introduces New Wireless Charging Technology
On January 6, 2025, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. (PAS), headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, announced the adoption of its innovative moving coil technology as the core of the Wireless Power Consortium's (WPC) new Active Alignment Power Profile (APP). This addition further extends the Qi Standard, allowing enhanced compatibility with devices built on both the existing Qi and the newer Qi2 standards.
The Significance of APP in Wireless Charging
The APP serves as a groundbreaking extension to the Qi Standard, designed specifically to work seamlessly with various receiver devices that adhere to the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), Extended Power Profile (EPP), or Baseline Power Profile specifications. Through high-precision alignment technology, the APP achieves a level of alignment accuracy that rivals that of magnetic systems. This major advancement ensures that MPP- and EPP-compliant devices enjoy a maximum charging output of 15W regardless of whether they incorporate magnets. This new technology is poised to revolutionize the wireless charging landscape by offering improved efficiency in charging processes.
Advancements in Moving Coil Technology
PAS's proprietary algorithm is at the heart of its moving coil technology, allowing automatic detection and alignment of the device's coil with the charger's coil. Such technology optimizes the charging alignment for smartphones and other devices, which means faster and more efficient charging experiences for users. The APP-compliant in-vehicle wireless chargers by PAS will continue to support this efficiency, boasting fast charging capabilities up to 15W for both MPP- and EPP-compliant smartphones.
PAS plans to unveil its pioneering APP-compliant models during CES 2025, scheduled for January 7, 2025, at the WPC booth. This exhibition will showcase the potential of advancing wireless charging technology and highlight PAS's commitment to lead innovations in this space.
PAS's Commitment to Wireless Charging Evolution
The expanding demand for wireless charging solutions in vehicles is a key focus for PAS as they strive to promote the adoption of the next generation of in-vehicle wireless charging systems. By ensuring compatibility with both modern smartphone charging profiles and traditional wired methods, PAS aims to provide users with comprehensive options suited to their needs. This strategic approach not only enhances user convenience but also aligns with global trends toward more sustainable and innovative technologies in automotive design.
