The 11th Mazu Culture Global Forum Commences on Meizhou Island

The 11th Global Forum for Mazu Culture unfolded on Meizhou Island, located in Putian City, Fujian Province, China. This significant event sought to promote the values and traditions surrounding Mazu, the revered sea goddess, tracing her influence across more than 52 countries and regions, with a following exceeding 300 million people worldwide.

New Initiatives Launched

During the opening ceremony, various remarkable initiatives were unveiled, each aimed at enhancing the awareness and appreciation of Mazu's culture. The first announcement was the release of a compilation that presents the initial national cases on maritime risk prevention, encapsulating China's valuable experiences in mitigating maritime disasters.

Moreover, the forum introduced version 2.0 of the Mass Conservation Ocean Circulation Model (MaCOM), which incorporates the latest technological advancements for disaster prevention and mitigation. This model is expected to be a pivotal tool in safeguarding marine ecosystems and communities.

In a heartfelt gesture of international cooperation, an all-in-one smart weather alert system was presented to Sri Lanka, aligning with China’s commitment to providing innovative technological solutions for early meteorological warnings. This smart device reflects Mazu's essence of providing safety to seafarers and coastal communities.

Declaration of Meizhou

A key highlight of the forum was the announcement of the Meizhou Declaration, aimed at fostering a shared understanding and consensus on the core values of Mazu Culture among diverse groups. This declaration advocates for cultural exchanges and mutual respect, essential for a globally connected community.

The event also featured ten sub-forums that addressed various critical topics. These included cultural and tourism cooperation, youth exchanges, universal love and peace, maritime economy, green energy on islands, rural revitalization, the ecology of mangroves, humanitarian efforts, women's exchanges, and cultural dialogues between China and Brazil. These discussions underscored the integral role of Mazu culture in fostering international relationships and promoting sustainable practices.

Expanding Global Reach

Additionally, 13 satellite sites were set up across different continents, enabling participants to engage with the forum remotely through video conferencing. This innovative approach broadened the reach of the forum, allowing for greater participation and engagement from a global audience.

Meizhou Island, regarded as Mazu's birthplace, has been pivotal in disseminating her cultural teachings throughout the world, thereby reinforcing the relevance of ancient traditions in modern contexts. The annual Mazu Culture Global Forum, initiated in 2016, has become a vital platform for amplifying the Mazu culture, integrating tourism with cultural education, and facilitating meaningful dialogues between civilizations.

As the forum concluded, it was evident that the commitment to preserving and promoting Mazu culture remains strong, with participants leaving inspired to continue their work in cultural preservation and international collaboration. The endeavors initiated at this forum are a testament to Mazu's enduring legacy as a protector and guide, illuminating paths toward cultural understanding and maritime resilience.
