Mayumi Tsuzuki's 'Everyday Fantasy': A Glimpse into Another Reality
The bustling art scene in Tokyo welcomes a new wave of creativity with the upcoming solo exhibition by renowned artist Mayumi Tsuzuki, titled
Everyday Fantasy. Set to debut on September 27, 2025, at the GALLERY ROOM・A located in Asakusa, this exhibition promises to take guests on a journey through familiar yet surreal landscapes.
In recent years, Tsuzuki has expanded her artistic horizons beyond her trademark pencil drawings and risography, delving into oil painting to capture the essence of the unnoticed stories and emotions that lurk within our daily surroundings.
An Exploration of the Ordinary
A highlight of Tsuzuki's work is her ability to transform commonplace settings—such as suburban gas stations or tranquil parks at dusk—into sites of profound storytelling. By intertwining the ordinary with a sense of fantasy, she invites viewers to pause and reflect on the subtle intricacies of life that often go unnoticed. Her use of vibrant colors and delicate perspectives creates a space where reality softens, allowing for moments of enchantment and nostalgia.
This exhibition will open its doors on September 27, 2025, at 8:00 AM, with pieces available exclusively through ArtSticker on a first-come, first-served basis. For those interested in the price list prior to the opening, inquiries can be directed through the provided contact methods.
Tsuzuki's Statement on Her Work
In her own words, Mayumi Tsuzuki reflects on her artistic intent:
'Everyday scenes such as suburban gas stations or pop-up diners contain faint echoes of narrative and an odd sense of disconnection from reality. These settings, commonly overlooked, at times spark memories or dreams that transport us to far-off places or times. Through this exhibition, I aim to portray these ephemeral moments, revealing small portals into alternate realities that evoke nostalgia, humor, and perhaps a touch of melancholy, all suggesting an underlying fantasy woven into our day-to-day lives.'
