Keita Ando's Solo Exhibition at YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA: A Journey of Life and Death

Keita Ando's Solo Exhibition: "Scorching Heat and Decay / Freezing Cold and Sprout"

Starting from January 24, 2026, YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA will host the solo exhibition titled "Scorching Heat and Decay / Freezing Cold and Sprout" by the talented artist Keita Ando. Located on the 4th floor of Stage 1 Nishidori, Daimyo, Fukuoka City, this exhibition promises to be a significant cultural event among art enthusiasts.

Keita Ando, who majored in Western painting at Kyushu Sangyo University, has been making waves in the art scene since his student days, winning numerous awards in various public competitions. His international exposure includes participating in an artist-in-residence program in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where he was deeply inspired by local religious cultures, leading him to explore themes of life, death, and cycles in his subsequent works. Returning to YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA marks a notable moment since his last appearance in the group exhibition "Connection Spot."

This solo exhibition serves as a progressive initiative that builds upon his 2023 exhibition "Scorching Heat and Decay" held at Art Space Baku in Fukuoka. The previous show drew its inspiration from the humidity and warmth of Malaysia, reflecting the rapid cycles of life. In contrast, "Freezing Cold and Sprout" evokes a sense of preservation and the birth of new life amidst freezing cold.

The exhibition will feature around 50 flat artworks, including new pieces along with selections from contemporaneous artists that have significantly influenced Ando's creative journey. This collection underscores the relationship with the Southeast Asian art scene and adds layers of depth to Ando's past productions, offering viewers the opportunity to witness the interconnectedness of these cultural influences.

The exhibition will showcase a unique approach, aiming to dissolve the boundaries between the artwork and the exhibition space by minimizing framing, allowing the pieces to blend seamlessly with their surroundings. This method prompts the question: what will sprout in this harmonious environment?

Ando's solid artistic style sharpens the viewer's consciousness, awakening a sense of renewal akin to plants emerging from their winter slumber in spring. Anticipation builds as visitors prepare to experience what may blossom within them upon viewing this captivating exhibition.
