Outlets of Mississippi Prepares for a Special Holiday Event
From November 8 to 14, the Outlets of Mississippi, the only outlet shopping center in the area, will host a festive event aimed at assisting veterans. In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Seven Days for the Troops and Purple Heart Homes, a veteran-owned nonprofit organization, this event promises to raise both funds and awareness for those who have bravely served our nation.
At the heart of this celebration is Marine Corps veteran Scott Burns, who is also a double amputee. Demonstrating immense dedication, Scott will station himself atop a 30-foot tower at the outlets for an entire week, remaining there without descending. His incredible endeavor will begin at 10 a.m. on November 8 and conclude at noon on November 14. By undertaking this challenge, Scott aims to draw attention to the essential services provided by Seven Days for the Troops, which include mobility assistance and other personal necessities for veterans in need.
Kathy Hackshaw, the Director of Retail at the Outlets of Mississippi, emphasized the commitment the center has towards supporting the community and veterans. “This partnership not only enhances our mission but also serves to bring the community together, particularly as we approach the holiday season,” she said. The Outlets provide a platform for fundraising while highlighting the unique challenges faced by veterans and their families, especially during this time of year.
Founded two decades ago in 2003, Seven Days for the Troops has consistently worked towards uplifting the lives of disabled veterans. The organization focuses on various initiatives such as mental health support, job training, and social reintegration, demonstrating a profound commitment to ensuring veterans are not left to navigate their challenges alone.
Reflecting on the milestone of the organization's 20th year, Scott Burns expressed, “Our journey has been filled with challenges, yet incredibly rewarding. We have seen the resilience of veterans and their families, and it has been a privilege serving them. This celebration marks not only our past achievements but also our renewed dedication to our mission.”
On November 8 at 10 a.m., Scott will be escorted to the tower by members of the Shamrock Spirit Riders Motorcycle Club, kicking off a week filled with musical performances and opportunities to contribute to the cause. Highlights of the musical lineup include Leah Rose, Travis Dunlap, and Jessie Howell among others, performing throughout the week at the Plaza. Attendees can enjoy live music while supporting a noble cause.
Fundraising efforts will be facilitated through in-person donations made at the food court as well as through an online auction available at
Seven Days for the Troops online auction. Hackshaw encouraged everyone to participate, stating, “Join us in making a positive impact in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Together, we can honor their service and assist in their transition back into civilian life.”
