Experience the Unique Emotional Journey at YUGEN Gallery's 'COMPLEX' Exhibition

Explore the 'COMPLEX' Exhibition at YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA

Starting June 12, 2025, the YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA is set to host an intriguing exhibition titled 'COMPLEX,' presented by the renowned South Korean art collective C.P.S (Complex Seoul). This exhibition not only promises to showcase art but also delves into the emotional intricacies that define our modern lives. This captivating show will later travel to YUGEN Gallery in Tokyo from July 4 to July 21, 2025.

C.P.S, a dynamic art collective based in Seoul, consists of the talented artists Joo Jaebum, Ichiro.C (275C), Kim Dong-ho, Seol Dongju, and Lee Dong Hoon. The exhibition is curated by the innovative gallery 'other,' located in Fukuoka.

The 'COMPLEX' exhibition draws upon everyday experiences and events as a foundation, inviting viewers to witness the unique interpretations of these five artists in various media, including painting, sculpture, graphics, and video. Collectively, they aim to reflect on the personal struggles and feelings of inadequacy that many individuals face in today’s world. The installation will feature 11 captivating works that encourage reflection and dialogue.

The Theme of Complexity

In a society that often values rapid success and productivity, the emotional landscape can feel isolating. Joo Jaebum, the leader of C.P.S, shares insights into living within the competitive context of South Korea, characterized by a sense of loneliness despite the hustle and bustle. Unlike previous generations that found prosperity with hard work, today's youths often encounter feelings of futility regardless of their efforts.

Yet, amidst these challenges, there is a burgeoning pride in South Korea's cultural achievements, especially in realms like K-POP and contemporary art.

"The complex emotions that each of us grapple with at this moment—shaped by both sadness and laughter—are ultimately what make our individual narratives powerful and unique. This belief is what inspired the theme of this exhibition," states Joo Jaebum.

Embracing Vulnerability through Art

The exhibition seeks to explore these often-overwhelming feelings of inadequacy and complexity. It emphasizes the healing potential of revealing one's vulnerabilities, allowing shared experiences to resonate with contemporary society. Each artist applies their unique language and method to interpret 'COMPLEX,' creating a multifaceted narrative that reflects the collective experiences of five artists from Seoul.

By experiencing their works, attendees may find both comfort and understanding, ultimately leading to the dawn of new personal stories. The exhibition will run from June 12 to June 26, 2025, and entry is free. Visitors can engage with the artists on-site from June 12 through June 15, a unique opportunity to gain insights into their creative processes.
