Step into Masterpieces: An Immersive Art Adventure Awaits

Discover the World of "Catharsis - The Last Atelier"

Kodansha Game Lab has recently unveiled its latest title, "Catharsis - The Last Atelier" (created by Mana), now available on Steam. This innovative game lets players step into the realm of renowned artworks, embarking on an immersive art adventure where they can collect hidden memories.

What Awaits in This Unique Journey?

In this game, players don the role of an unnamed entity, awakening in a stark white world. Guided by a mysterious voice, the player enters various paintings, each encapsulating the lifetimes and emotions of those who lived within them. Each step taken through these masterpieces not only uncovers fragments of memories but also deepens the understanding of humanity itself. What awaits you at the destination is a mystery to unravel with your own eyes.

Experience 10 Iconic Worlds

One of the exciting features of "Catharsis" is how each painting presents a unique perspective and gameplay experience. Some stages are navigated in a 3D environment, while others utilize side-scrolling or even boat rides through immersive landscapes. From Monets to Klimts, the game features a range of familiar works, each lending its distinct flavor to the journey. For instance, players may glide through a stage inspired by Millais' "Ophelia" while traversing a fantastical forest.

Companions for the Adventure

During this voyage, two animal companions accompany the player: a wolf symbolizing instinct and wildness and an owl representing wisdom and reason. Their unique movements— the wolf's swift agility and the owl's graceful flight— enhance the player's freedom and comfort in exploring the artistic worlds captured in each painting.

A New Type of Art Experience from Home

This game is not just about observing art from the outside; it allows you to physically delve inside the artwork's world. By stepping into these masterful pieces, players can truly feel the atmosphere and memories embedded within each painting, offering a vastly different perspective from an art museum. Each stage lasts around 10 to 20 minutes, catering to those with busy schedules, allowing all to appreciate beauty in the midst of a demanding lifestyle.

It's worth noting that the game lacks a time limit or game-over conditions. Thus, players can enjoy a leisurely exploration of colorful worlds and exquisite memories at their own pace.

Story Overview

Awakening in a boundless realm of beauty, the player is left to explore their identity while following the call of various masterpieces. From the glow of the cafe lights in "Cafe Terrace at Night" to the gentle breeze found in "Woman with a Parasol," each stage fills your emptiness with colors, light, and charming memories that stir the soul.

As you navigate through these ten unique worlds, what will you create by the journey's end? An immersive art adventure awaits your discovery with captivating questions about the essence of the soul.
