Experience Adventure with UNEVEN PLUS Summer School 2025
This summer, UNEVEN PLUS invites children to embark on an adventurous journey of learning and creativity through the unique experience of video production. Located in Koiwa, Edogawa, Tokyo, UNEVEN PLUS is a children's video-making school that focuses on helping kids connect with society. Through hands-on experiences in filming, editing, and dramatization, we aim to foster their ability to think independently, take action, and communicate effectively.
What is UNEVEN PLUS?
UNEVEN PLUS is not just any extra-curricular activity; it’s an experiential learning opportunity designed to teach children how to “communicate” while engaging with the world around them. Beyond mastering filming techniques and editing skills, our program emphasizes interviewing, research, and understanding the atmosphere of different locations. We strive to develop essential non-cognitive abilities such as creativity, collaboration, perseverance, and empathy as children explore and learn.
Throughout our previous activities, children have collaborated with various local businesses—ranging from restaurants and factories to farmers and sports teams. They have actively participated in the entire production process, from planning and filming to editing and sharing their final products. Our innovative approach has garnered media attention, including features on Fuji Television's 'Mezamashi TV'.
Hands-On Learning Experience
At the Tokyo Bento Labo, children learn important skills such as food plating and hygiene management while experiencing the vibrant environment of a working bento factory. In interviews conducted at Salon de With, children's insightful questions brought smiles and a light-hearted atmosphere even amongst professionals. Moreover, shooting an action-packed soccer game with Ambrogio FC offered a thrilling opportunity to practice composition and timing, giving kids a taste of the excitement and challenges faced on a real film set.
Summer School 2025 Details
The UNEVEN PLUS Summer School 2025 promises to be filled with exciting projects, including corporate interviews, improvisational drama creation, and YouTube streaming. This “experiential” learning approach opens the door to the full spectrum of video production processes.
Target Audience: Elementary school students (Grade 1) to junior high school students (Grade 3)
Flexibility: Participants can join for morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions, making it easy to fit around summer plans.
Expert Guidance: Our professional video creators support each child’s individual interests and aspirations, helping them explore the world of filmmaking.
Corporate Interviews: Engaging with Reality
Our corporate interview segment grants children firsthand experiences at various workplaces, including delivery companies, cafes, nail salons, fire stations, and yoga studios. By visiting these diverse environments, children will immerse themselves in the realities of society, learning beyond classroom textbooks about real-world systems and the nature of work.
Throughout the interviews and filming sessions, children will contemplate how to effectively communicate the stories they capture. Wrapping their thoughts around open-ended questions, they will cultivate their analytical abilities, listening skills, and expressive capacities.
This hands-on approach to video creation naturally nurtures vital non-cognitive skills, such as creativity, cooperation, empathy, and persistence.
Observing Growth in Children
From previous workshops, we have seen many children take brave first steps into new challenges. Initially shy around the camera, some have blossomed into confident interviewers, while others who struggled to articulate their thoughts have discovered their unique ways of engaging their interviewees. When viewing their finished videos, both the children and their parents experienced moments of surprise and joy.
One parent shared, “I was amazed to see my normally reserved child asking questions.” Another noted, “Now I understand how the camera work actually operates,” indicating a broader awareness of potential career paths.
Creating videos makes these achievements tangible and permanent, capturing each child's record of challenges met and experiences gained. Each moment, including the tough ones, becomes part of their journey to discovering the world around them.
