Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake Expands Its Reach
Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is set to unveil its newest retail store and donation center in Baltimore on
July 23, 2026, at
6516 Reisterstown Road Plaza. This store, which will hold its grand opening celebrations starting at 10 a.m., represents a significant step in the organization’s ongoing effort to broaden access to affordable shopping options in the community while simultaneously generating new employment opportunities.
As one of two new locations slated for opening this year, this store marks Goodwill’s
fourth in Baltimore City, reflecting the growing public interest in thrift shopping while supporting sustainability practices. The former space of Petco has been transformed into an inviting retail environment designed to make good use of a plethora of secondhand goods.
Responding to Community Demand
Lisa Rusyniak, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, expressed that every new store signifies vital investments into the local communities. According to Rusyniak, “Our retail stores create jobs, provide affordable shopping options for families, keep millions of pounds of usable goods out of landfills, and generate the revenue that makes our mission possible.” With the rise of thrift shopping popularity, Goodwill is amplifying its retail operations to accommodate this demand by renovating existing stores and enhancing the shopping experience.
Goodwill’s revenue generated through retail operations not only funds new ventures but also supports crucial community services such as job training, reentry assistance, and tailored education programs at the Baltimore Excel Center. This center offers adults the chance to earn a high school diploma with additional resources such as free on-site childcare and career coaching.
Store Features and Operational Hours
The new Baltimore store will have extended retail hours:
- - Monday to Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- - Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
A range of grand opening festivities, including promotions, will be announced leading up to the event. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10 a.m., preceded by brief remarks at approximately 9:45 a.m. This event aims to gather Goodwill leadership, community partners, employees, and the public, inviting media attendance for interviews and visual opportunities during the ribbon cutting.
