Yusuke Washimi’s Exhibition: 'Flowing Body' in Shibuya

This July, art enthusiasts in Tokyo will have a unique opportunity to explore the works of contemporary artist Yusuke Washimi at the 'Flowing Body' exhibition, held at the Akushu's Tamari Ba space in Shibuya. Running from July 14th to 26th, the exhibition promises to be a thoughtful exploration of the theme of transformation through various artistic forms.

An Artistic Collaboration

The exhibition is a collaborative initiative by Theatre Workshop Inc., which manages the Tamari Ba, and and aims to foster a conducive environment for artists to display their works in the heart of Shibuya, a global hub for art and culture.

The Concept Behind 'Flowing Body'

Yusuke Washimi, born in Shizuoka in 1996, delves into the concept of 'transformation' using everyday shapes and bodily forms as reference points. His work spans across various mediums including fashion, sculpture, and installations. In this exhibition, he presents a series of works titled 'Flowing Body,' which builds upon insights gained from studying the intricate processes behind sculptor Ryokichi Mukai's notable series, 'Ant's Castle.' The artist explores the interplay between materials and forms based on ZAS alloy casting techniques, highlighting how transformation influences artistic creations.

Featured Works

Among the pieces that will be showcased are notable works such as:
  • - E-148 (light) (2018)
  • - Courtyard of Transport (2024)
  • - CONTENA (2023)
  • - bind (2022)

Each of these works represents a different facet of the transformation theme, inviting viewers to engage with the physical and conceptual shifts they embody.

Meet the Artist

Yusuke Washimi is currently a doctoral candidate at Musashino Art University, where his research emphasizes the interrelation between sculpture and transformation. His prior experiences in fashion and art production further enhance his approach to contemporary sculpture, blending academic research with creative expression.
