Central America Welcomes Advanced Energy Storage System by SINEXCEL and Wasion Energy

Transformative Energy Storage Project in Central America

In a significant advancement for renewable energy in Central America, SINEXCEL and Wasion Energy have successfully launched the Coopesantos Wind Power Energy Storage System in Costa Rica. Officially inaugurated on July 9, 2025, this landmark project was attended by local government officials, marking a pivotal moment in the collaboration between China and Costa Rica on sustainable energy initiatives.

This project stands out as the first of its kind in the region to integrate SINEXCEL’s cutting-edge 1250kW power conditioning system (PCS), which boasts impressive performance metrics attributed to three key features: intelligent control, robust safety, and environmental adaptability.

Intelligent Control

The Coopesantos system exhibits an efficiency rate exceeding 99%. This high level of efficiency is crucial for functions like peak shaving, frequency regulation, and voltage support, essential for maintaining grid stability and reliability. With intelligent control features, the system effectively manages and optimizes energy usage, ensuring that the grid is supported even during high demand periods.

Robust Safety Features

Safety is a top priority in energy systems, and this project is equipped with Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) technology, which not only enhances performance but also allows for innovations like black start capabilities. This feature ensures that the system can start up independently in the event of a complete power outage, positioning the energy storage system as a reliable backup during crises. The robust safety measures also enable off-grid parallel operation, providing additional security for energy supply in extreme weather conditions or seismic events typical of the region.

Environmental Adaptability

Given Central America’s unique environmental challenges—including high temperatures and humidity, as well as frequent seismic activity—the Coopesantos system has been specifically designed to withstand these conditions. Its enhanced resistance to seismic and moisture factors showcases a commitment to developing energy solutions that are both effective and sustainable, even in the face of climate change.

Feedback regarding the system has been overwhelmingly positive. During pre-commissioning technical seminars, representatives from Costa Rica’s national power authorities, along with industry experts and international clients, lauded its advanced technologies and robustness. This response highlights the growing competitiveness of SINEXCEL’s energy storage technology on the global stage.

Strategic Importance of the Project

The successful launch of the Coopesantos Wind Power Energy Storage System marks a strategic breakthrough for SINEXCEL in the Central American energy market, representing a significant step in the company's broader efforts towards global expansion. SINEXCEL is committed to enhancing energy transition efforts in Latin America and promoting energy independence across the region.

Founded in 2007, SINEXCEL has established itself as a leader in energy storage solutions, electric vehicle charging, and power quality products. With a track record that includes over 12 GW of installed storage and 140,000 EV chargers, the company is dedicated to fostering innovation in the energy sector. Notably, its collaboration with other industry champions like EVE Energy and Schneider Electric only strengthens its position as a frontrunner in advancing energy technology.

As the world increasingly shifts towards renewable energy solutions, the Coopesantos project stands as a model of international collaboration and technological advancement in the field. The future of energy in Central America looks promising with such initiatives paving the way for sustainable development and energy resilience.
