Okayama University to Host 2025 International Symposium on Planetary Research
The Institute of Planetary Materials at Okayama University is set to hold the
International Symposium 2025 - MISASA VIII on March 4-5, 2025, in Misasa, Tottori Prefecture. This prestigious event will delve into the topic of
"Future Planetary Exploration: Understanding of Planetary Surface Environments and Habitability" and will be co-hosted with J-PEAKS. It is an exciting opportunity that will bring together
63 participants, including
16 graduate students from various institutions, to discuss their latest research findings.
During the symposium, researchers will focus on understanding extraterrestrial environments like those found on the Moon and Mars, exploring the potential for long-term human habitation in such settings. Leading experts in planetary science, such as Professor
Seiji Sugita from the University of Tokyo and Professor
Nicolas Mangold from the Laboratory of Planetology and Geodynamics in Nantes, France, will deliver keynote lectures. Their talks will cover the latest advancements in lunar and planetary exploration, along with insights from laboratory experiments.
The discussions aim to foster collaboration and innovation within the field of planetary exploration, emphasizing the importance of

On the first day of the symposium, scholars and guests enjoyed a banquet opening, led by Okayama University’s President,
